Can't install virgin media, switching to BT.
So after waiting almost two weeks for virgin media to send their engineer to install the package .. he came a day early to 'check up' and said that they don't have their virgin media cable installed into our newly built block of houses and the only way they could get the cable installed is if all 8 houses agree on installing virgin media. He also said I should try BT and/or Sky.
I was pretty pissed .. rang BT and they had a decent offer .. 66.9mb download and 20mb upload. Still pissed, BT said their next available date to send someone was on the 12th of July (That's a month without internet). Tried asking them if there was any way they could setup an earlier date but they said only if someone 'cancels' their appointment then I could probably take theirs, other than that I have to wait.
Now I'm worried after waiting until the 12th that they might say the same thing virgin media said.
Now is BT better than virgin? If I considered buying a dongle until the 12th, what should I get? -
Re: Can't install virgin media, switching to BT.
Switching from Virgin to BT myself. Don't think there's such thing as a good British ISP but at least it's higher quality crap. I'm hoping I don't get noticeably throttled by BT since I'm never below my full speed on Virgin (even though they're meant to throttle) but has horrible routing problems/packet loss etc. If you rang them, I'm guessing you gave them your post code and house number before they told you that speed? In which case, you should be fine. If you go on their website, you can do the same to see what's available in your area.

Had BT for a while. The broadband itself was unbelievably slow in my area. But after a few quiet words with BT over a couple of weeks got a nicely discounted Infinity package option 2! Fibre optic with them if fast ands reliable I have to admit. I believe now its the same price as standard broadband as well!
