Someone wanted to do their English language investigation on this topic in my class; she was saddened when she found out it really has nothing to do with sexuality:
lol why would she feel 'saddened'?

Perhaps having a penis jammed down a throat can change the resonance of the vocal cords.
in that case a lot of ladies would "talk gay"

Maybe it depends whether they are the giver or the taker. I know I'd probably get a bit of a higher pitched voice if my leather doughnut was getting pounded frequently.

the OP is confusing 'being gay' with being a 'nelly' or 'swish'

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swish_(slang)
Wentworth and Flexner define swish as a noun meaning "a male homosexual, esp. one with obviously feminine traits" ?

Of course it has something to do with it, that guy of towie is the best example, people who speak like that will usually be gay. A lot of gay guys don't speak like that and there may be some straight guys who sound similar but usually someone who talks like that will be gay.

Do you think a person's sexuality has anything to do with how a person speaks?

I knew within 8 seconds, just based on how he pronounced his words.
Maybe my gaydar isn't as sensitive as yours (Which is odd because I'm gay...), but he doesn't gay to me.

Maybe you're confusing being Gay with being able to use your words clearly.

Lol, or maybe, I'm really not.

I don't think Martin Luther King Jr. was gay because he was "able to use [his] words clearly".....

you implied that swish was different from being gay, these people define it as gay albeit with the fruity girly traits...

    pardon me?

I don't know how you knew that, because he didn't sound at all how I expected when you suggested that his voice was gay. I think it would be interesting if there was a test or something, and you didn't know he was gay already (because it's mentioned before he starts speaking so you are already associating him with homosexuality and thus anybody who listens to it after reading this thread will be actively looking for "gay" qualities in his voice).

I think one theory for the "gayness" of certain men's voices could be attributed to the fact that if they have a feminine voice but are straight, they may make an effort to change their voice and make it more manly (so deeper and less breathy), whereas if a man has this sort of voice and is openly gay, then he might not feel the need to change his voice because he already does not fit in with a macho environment on account of his sexuality (which most men seem naturally predisposed to dislike). As such, for the gay man with the effeminate voice, it is not much of an issue as it is expected of him anyway, whereas the straight man with a gay voice will actively conceal the "true" nature of his voice and adapt it to suit his social and romantic needs.

Then again, I'm just supposing and could easily be chatting total ****e.

I genuinly think they dont put on the voice on purpose. I know about two gay guys and they really like masculine men so if they wanted to be masculine wouldnt they try to avoid putting on an effeminate sounding voice? I think it just sort of happens against their will.
