Vote of No Confidence in HM Government
Motion of No Confidence, JPKC, internetguruThis House believes that the rabidity of the current government is both distasteful and unedifying; they have proven themselves to be a coalition of reactionaries clinging to power sheerly for the sake of it, lacking both vision and coherency in the partisan reforms they have promised. To continue, such a Government needs the affirmation of the House in order to carry any authority over it. The proponents of this motion do not believe that such support exists.

The procedure for Votes of No Confidence in HM Government is outlined below. Please keep this debate civil.

Votes of No Confidence against the Government

    1) A vote of no confidence can be called against the Government at any point during a term of governance. The person calling the vote must be an MP of any party.

    2) The Speaker must be notified by one person and get another to person to second their Vote of No Confidence (both people need to be MPs).

    3) This will automatically start a 3 day discussion where both sides get to argue their points; the Speaker will start a thread and post the reasons for the Vote of No Confidence being called.

    4) After the 3 day discussion a 4 day poll will be opened in the Division Lobby so that all MPs can have a vote. The poll will be a private poll only showing the results when it has ended.

    5) If the result of the poll is in favour of the Vote of No Confidence then a period of 7 days shall be allowed for other parties to form a new government (using all the usual regulations for it).

    6) If the result of the poll does not favour the Vote of No Confidence then usual business will resume in the House of Commons.

I simply do not believe that this House has the appetite for such a radically right-wing government.

    Aye.

I also believe that any coalition/party claiming 'authority' over the House should have the support of the House. If this Government do then they have nothing to fear.

    You what!

So we have one extremist who just had his MP seat put up for election and another member of the House who was kicked out of the government for deceit after previously being practically kicked out of Labour.

Were you to actually get the House on board i may take you seriously but as your own statistics have shown, the government has passed a higher proportion of legislation than any other party bar the Libertarians and therefore has proven itself.

This is nothing more than one person wanting vengeance for his own mistake and another who just loves chaos.

This government will stand tall and survive!

Haha pathetic. Just because a government which is in power doesn't go with your political beliefs

Good luck with this, hope you get nowhere, this government has been active, debating and I hope you get nowhere with this VoNC.

This place is becoming like EastEnders or whatever.

My reasoning is the government no longer holds majority.

As you have been replaced (Chiggy has now won by default), the government has exactly the same number of MP's as it has since Jpkc was given the boot.

Yeah but considering UKIP have an MP with an 11% turnout I don't count that seat.

Meh. If the House stands by you then I'll accept the result - I just don't think a House where conservative parties make up 14 votes is able to appropriately govern with a left-wing bloc that holds 22 seats, and that's not even including Liberal MPs that are happy counting themselves as left-of-centre. If you survive the vote then good, I just want to see if you do. I hope you don't because I think some of your policies are incredibly anti-consensus.

I have no ill will against the Government, I just want to make sure they are capable of holding the confidence of this House - a House that the electorate decided would be overwhelmingly social democratic, social liberal, and socialist at the last election. This VoNC was called because I don't believe the House agrees with their politics; if we all do then I'll accept the result.

If you had a problem with that - why go into government with them then?

During the coalition negotiations I was led to believe that they would be governing from a centre/centre-right liberal position. I was not expecting hardline conservative policies like:

    • A flat tax.
    • Banning of refugees.
    • Welfare cuts.
    • Tirades against workers' rights.

These are just a few that have thus far been revealed. As a person that seems ill at ease within the Libertarian Party (lingering at the conservative edge) I don't doubt that you'll support the Government as they are very similar to you ideologically, as with Mazzini, who would probably feel equally uneasy with a left-of-centre government.

Even a minority government needs to hold the support of a majority.

Just looked back through the History, and actually there's only ever been one government with an absolute majority, and that was the Monster Raving Loony - Labour coalition in Parliament V. Since then, every single government has been minority. That said, this is the weakest government of all time, tied with the Conservative government of Parliament VIII - although that was a single party, rather than a coalition.

Ill at ease in my own party? What position are you in to make accusations like that? Flirting from party to party. I think you'll find I'm not the only conservative libertarian in my party and have actually become more liberal in my views on things in the past few months.
