    A2 further maths help!
    I have just completed my AS year and will be starting A2 in september.
    However since the college i attend no longer teach further maths, i am teaching it to myself.

    At AS math/further maths i did the following modules;
    core 1, core 2, mechanics 1, statistics 1, decision 1, and further pure 1.

    At A2 maths i am doing core 3, core 4, and m2.

    For my A2 further maths, i have to do 3 modules.
    FP2 OR FP3 (compulsory) However i have heard that FP3 is an absolute nightmare, so plan to go with FP2.
    The 2 other modules can be anything which i haven't already done.
    I was thinking about Decision2 and Mechanics 3.

    Does anyone think that is a better option?
    Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you

    This really depends on the person. I find FP3 slightly easier on my board as it is calculus heavy (which also means I can check my solutions in the exam )

    Same. Oh how I pity their ambition. Their prospects. Their potential salaries. Seriously, I'd hate to be earning that much instead of just being a druggy. What absolute losers lol :P

    If you're in the UK I recommend you see if your college can enroll you in the Further Maths Support Programme Link. They basically give you online lessons for Further Maths modules and an extra bit of support if you need it.

    I just sat my A2 Further Maths exams after being with the programme and I found it excellent, thought you might be interested

    I personally find FP3 much easier than FP2 but I think that they are both pretty okay. I did (last exam tomorrow) FP2, FP3 and M3. I have found this year easier than last. M3 is much much easier than M2 as well btw.

    I much prefered FP3 to FP2 - it always seemed more obvious how to answer each question, and once you've got your head around vectors and stuff it's pretty easy. FP2 was horrible and I found that some questions were really hard to even see how to solve.
    I don't know about D2 because I didn't do it, but M3 is no harder than M2. Stats 2 is quite a step up from S1 (and really dull!) so could be one to avoid. You could even take an extra module for a bit of security...

    All the modules I did were OCR (not the MEI course) so what I've said might be completely different for other exam boards.

    Definitely go with FP2, FP3 is more difficult, plus a lot longer and in my opinion a lot less interesting
    STAY AWAY FROM M4
    i never did any decision maths, but I've heard its kind of boring, but if you like it go for it, especially since it counts towards the A* and is relatively simple.

    If you're talented at maths take things that interest you, M3 i found very interesting and I'm glad I did it, however if you're not THAT concerned I;d actually consider S2 an option. Easy module, and makes it SO much easier to get an A* (I did it as an extra, it can be self taught within a week!)

    Also try to consider what you'll be doing at uni
    engineering/maths/physics ===> definitely mechanics
    Biology ===> stats probably
    computer science ====> decision maths
    that kinda thing. x

    What board are you on??!! Please say its not edexcel, because NO ONE should find M3 easier than M2, M2 is a bit of a joke compared to M3 haha x

    I am planning to avoid stats at all costs, as S1 was the most boring module imo. I have heard that S2 is fairly difficult.

    Well my AS modules were AQA, but fp2/fp3 exam is edexcel(according to college)

    Sure, for both Maths and Further Maths I sat Stats 2, Mechanics 2, Decisions 2 and Further Pure 3 as my modules (With AQA btw). Further Pure 3 was certainly the hardest but the papers follow a very similar routine that you can get into the zone for.

    Doing M2, S2 and D2 was probably the hardest since AQA puts them all on the same day, just sat all three in a row earlier today.

    Also as far as I know the Support Programme I linked to teaches the content for each exam board, so you can get AQA/Edexcel/OCR/MEI etc whichever one you're currently on.
