I don't get why this is such big news, when I was at school people did much worse things to me and nobody gave a ****.

HUH!?!! I dont understand how you cannot regard this as 'big news'. This poor woman through no fault of her own was tormented by these stupid boys and she was in tears. They were taking about performing sexaul acts on a 68 year-old elderly woman!!! Well hang on if this isnt 'big news' to you then what is?
I find it absolutely disgusting that someone has to go through this just because these immature boys cannot control their mouth!!!

Really nice gesture, it is terrible that those kids treat her like that. Her job is to help them and that is how they repay her. I'll be sure to send a couple of thousand to that fund.

Much more than £80,00 now, I think it's around £300,000 (possibly much more, website is down haven't seen it for the last 9 hours). I wouldn't give much praise to the internet though. They did a good thing by helping and donating to this women. However, they also did a bad thing, children's names and addresses have been released as well which puts those children at risks.

It's expected that children will be bullied especially boys. Whereas, the person in this video is a old lady and old ladies have connotations of being innocent and sweet. You could also see her crying and it was insults after insults for 10 whole minutes (possibly more) and when you compare some of these insults (i.e. one about the women's child) to the facts (i.e. that he died), it makes it even more troubling.

It's sad that people ignored you. But, don't hate/be jealous when others aren't ignoring someone else.
I think the age of the victim has a lot to do with it. She is an adult, what is she supposed to do about it? She can't say anything back, fight back or really do anything in response, if she did she would be labelled as the person at fault (and these kids know that).

Not saying it is right, but when it is people of your own age at school then you can say something or do something back (not that I'm condoning that or anything), whereas she just has to sit there and take it.

Just watched the video, it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be tbh. I know I'm gonna get negged for this, but this woman should have been mature enough to just ignore them, and not get all emotional about . Or got off the bus if she couldnt take it. Not just sit through that tirade of abuse.

That said I'm not condoning that type if behaviour, but not sure why it's caused such as internet storm..

She's a bus monitor, it's her job, she can't just get up and leave.

I did not watch all of it....mindless horrible jabbering tbh....but they were referring to her by her name. I would not be surprised if she had to endure this abuse most days. I would agree in that I thought she may be able to move away to the front of the bus but I do not know the arrangement.

At the end of the day it's her job. She cant just get off the bus. I guess if you're abused over time there will be a point when you just crack and get emotional.

Oh wasn't aware she was a bus monitor. Either way there are better ways of dealing with things than getting all emotional. She should have kept her emotions under control and reported it to the principle or something.

HUH?!!!?? What do you mean that this is not 'big news'? This poor lady was tormented and reduced to tears by disgusting and childish boys through no fault of her own. They were talking about performing sexual acts on a 68-year-old woman who is old enough to be their grandmother!!! If this isn't 'big news' to you then what is?
I find is extremely disgusting that people can behave like this and you do not consider this as 'big news'!!

Wow it is now at $500k and there are still 29 days to go. This could end up well over $1 million.

With that sort of money she could buy a lifetime's supply of cattleprods to use on the kids.

I thought all donations/gifts would be tax free? I'd start a petition for that in general if it weren't the case

Ok this is sad but I wouldn't donate money for it... Don't these people have better things to do with their money??

Don't think that is the case in the USA. Lottery winners are taxed. I didn't mean they were crazy for doing the petition, just that it is crazy how the internet will probably make her a millionaire just from donations after one video that went viral. Crazy in a good way

If you have the money spare why not? I donated some, most donations are in the order of $5 to $10. For a normal working adult that isn't really going to impair their ability to buy what they need to buy.

I've seen that there's been some apologies from the parents of the kids - why on earth not the kids themselves?

This is what happens when you let yourself become 'liberalised'. Where is the deterrent? A suspension? Right, because they won't just play video games. Expulsion? They'll go to another school.
I would consider my upbringing to have been extremely liberal, with all of my lifechoices being left down to me. It has not caused me to bully old ladies on the bus.

Re: Bullying schoolboys reduce elderly bus monitor to tears
This reminds of my school bus rides to school. I was on a bus with 9-18 year olds, and most of those under 15 were terribly behaved. The younger kids verbally abusing / harrassing the bus driver and other passengers, screaming, throwing things, and back-chatting really rudely to sixth formers that told them off were everyday occurrences. A bus driver actually went off sick from stress because it was so unbearable. One kid was temporarily suspended when he threw a tin (why he had a tin I don't know) and it cut another kid's face and another was reprimanded for cracking a window. We had assembly after assembly for kids on our and the other bus routes. They even installed CCTV cameras in the end!! And these kids were not feral tearaways.

They were all middle-class kids with secure, supportive families whose parents wanted them to have a better quality of education than was unavailable in our home town by sending them to an "outstanding" school in the countryside 30 minutes away, and who paid £700 a year for the bus fare per child. When at school, most of them were very well-behaved and while waiting at the bus stop with their parents they were all good as gold. But as soon as they got on that bus, they turned into little monsters.
