    TSR passwords compromised...
the latest announcement from the good folk who work for TSR:
IMPORTANT - Your Password has been compromised. You need to act.

Unfortunately it has come to our attention that TSR has been compromised in a similar way to the recently publicised Linked In attack. At a minimum, username, hashed password and email addresses have been taken. Although the passwords were hashed/salted, they were unfortunately not secured to a level which would prevent them being cracked with modern approaches. You therefore need to act as if your actual password has been compromised.

We therefore recommend that everyone changes their password immediately not only on TSR, but anywhere else they have used the same password.

We will be reviewing our security measures over the coming days and communicating in a range of ways with all members to ensure that everyone receives this message.

We are really sorry for the nuisance that this will cause.
I am curious though as to who on earth would care for the accounts of TSR users? Its not like linked in, a bank, paypal etc. where you can actually grab some interesting infomation about said person or some dollar if youre lucky, i mean htis is a student forum the most interesting bits and bobs theyre going to get from this is access to our bitching about work and the constant Islam slam threads  unless of course you do use said password on other sites in which case best to change it, speaking of which ..

wouldnt surprise me if it was the government.

in the light of the student protests and the august riots.

they may have special branch working on sieving through posts to find potential radicals to watch and enquire with further. perhaps then looking through your pc your emails your bank details and developing your profile. finding out your online identity and therefore getting to know your agenda.

i could imagine if the nazi holocaust happened in the present the nazi regime would have used the internet to follow and route out jews who had hidden their jewish identity in the real world but were prolific with it online.

i mean after all this is a british website. and the brits have been famed on their intel gathering techniques. and the above mentioned student protests and august riots were british problems.

makes sense considering that the government held a COBRA meeting in retaliation to the august riots.

also its interesting to consider that we are approaching that time of year once again...

This is why you don't put anything that important online, without backing it up safely and securely. Luckily I change my password's every month, but it's unlikely TSR will get accounts being hacked.

    Meh
No personal info, no personal info tied to my sockpuppet email account, no personal info anywhere, basically
I'm not even bothering to change it.
