Re: What am I supposed to do in the 3 months before uni starts? Thanks, i'll take a look (Y)(Original post by RobertWhite)
I recently enjoyed Kane and Abel by Jeffery archer. I'm not sure what books you're into but I thought it was excellent.
Perhaps you should look at (I think the Times newspaper) 100 books you have to read before you die. Lots of classics there I think. -
Re: What am I supposed to do in the 3 months before uni starts?Learn a language and pursue a new hobby. Many people would kill for three months free time.(Original post by Flyteryder)
The few friends I have are all on holiday. I volunteer but it's gotten really boring and I can't stand it any more (I've been doing it for a year), and I don't know what I can do. Going to be a very boring 3 months; I think I might go mad with boredom

Re: What am I supposed to do in the 3 months before uni starts?lol trust me! i've tried that! my mum's arranged for me to do a bit of work experience with a company through one of her friends, and that's the closest i've gotten. i'm hoping to make a really good impression on them so they'll consider hiring me for the summer.(Original post by Casshern1456)
Can you work for a family or friend, sometimes I wish I had more successful family and friends I can rely on to find work haha.
i know what you mean about successful family and friends, i'm really just trying to build contacts from work experience for later on, after uni when i actually NEED a job! lol -
Re: What am I supposed to do in the 3 months before uni starts? That is exactly why people can't find a job, you don't need to use a "CV Builder" they're incredibly easy to make unless you're a complete simpleton. Handing your CV into big, corporate giants like supermarkets will not do anything. Emailing restaurants and emphasising that you're keen to learn, will.(Original post by HypeGirl94)
Okay. I know people have been saying 'Get a job', and you're right, it's not as easy as it seems. However, you probably haven't tried as hard as you could either. Write a cv using a CV builder online, with a cover letter, and go around town handing CV's out to ALL the places you wouldn't mind working. Coffee shops, supermarkets, clothes stores, even in fast-food stores. Hand out 10's, 100's if you have to, and if you don't get a job then... well, you most definitely will. Remember, a lot of people are leaving jobs over summer to have a summer off before uni. And, don't worry about not having your summer to do things with either. Most places only want part-timers because the economic climate is so rubbish, so you will still have time to spend with friends (and more money to spend), and you might even be able to save for uni...
Failing that just stay in all summer and cry. -
Re: What am I supposed to do in the 3 months before uni starts? This is what I'm doing for the next two weeks. Then I need to be home for a week, and I'll go do it again for a month, should be fun.(Original post by James..)
Hitch-hike.
Take a tent and all you need to pay for is food.
Preferably take a friend with you, but it's great fun, and you will get to see some of Europe for free! -
Re: What am I supposed to do in the 3 months before uni starts?really?(Original post by Jackfinance17)
I'd just try to learn as much of the uni stuff as I can so I can play more and learn less at uni.
Whats your degree? -
Re: What am I supposed to do in the 3 months before uni starts?Same here... I'm dreading September when everyone leaves and I'm still here...(Original post by OddThings)
I'm just beginning a gap year(personal reasons) and I'm terrified about the boredom.Friends going off to uni soon so I'm even more worried.I'm planning on living with a friend abroad for a month or so,working, visiting new places in the uk,volunteering, reading a LOT of books, might try learning guitar, and keeping up my languages.

Re: What am I supposed to do in the 3 months before uni starts?Well, I made it to Lille in France from Derbyshire in little over 12 hours, couchsurfed a little, went to a party, then realised my bank doesn't let me use ATM's abroad so came home, but yeah it was a fun four/five days.(Original post by James..)
Ahhh! Have fun!! PM Me how it went! Good luck!
It turns out i've been offered a job that I didn't think i'd get, so it means that my second journey is on hold, but with a bit more cash it means I can go for a couple of months come this time next year

Re: What am I supposed to do in the 3 months before uni starts?Haha, it took us two days to get from Manchester to Portsmouth (we didn't set off til mid-day and were so tired we went to bed at 8pm though, then had to wait 12 hours at the ferryport) so to make it to Lille in 12 hours is amazing! Sucks about your ATM!(Original post by shezshez)

Did you do it alone or with a friend? Grats on the job! Make your hitch next time it comes along a lot longer-lasting! -
Re: What am I supposed to do in the 3 months before uni starts?Hahaha, I set off not far from Manchester actually, but yeah we just got incredibly lucky, as we jumped out of one car a lady stopped and offered to take us around another 50 miles, and that was before we'd even started hitching properly.(Original post by James..)

Should have researched the bank situation really, just didn't think about it. Ah well, next time I know. This time I went with a friend, we set of at 5am 'cause we thought people would feel sorry for us :P, seemed to work
With this extra cash means I can probably head out on the road again during March-April next year and then again in Summer. Can't wait, i'll probably try and head up to Scandanavia next time, but it's awesome how many different and wonderful people you meet on the journey
Sorry, I can't remember if I've asked, but where were you headed? Was it your first time hitching?
