Re: England is miserable, discuss, youthsThis. The only thing wrong with this country is the sickening level of pessimism.(Original post by py0alb)
England is not miserable at all, it is awesome. Best country in the world by miles. -
Re: England is miserable, discuss, youthsI would say to other posters also, that I know it depends on personal experience. I'm not an inherently negative and bitter person but some very sinister things have happened to me. I hate establishment and think our political elites are vile, a discrage to their forefathers. We are so corrupt, and have a misplaced superiority complex.(Original post by Jacoti)
I love living in England, why do you think it's miserable? -
Re: England is miserable, discuss, youthsSome places, of course. But Spain, France, Italy(although it's ****ed itself, pure affection/romance value ), Netherlands, great country, I have been and would no way be miserable or desperatley homesick. I also suspect Scandinavia is better to live in too.(Original post by zedbrar)
Travel the world for a year and you will soon start looking back upon England nostalgically. -
Re: England is miserable, discuss, youthsyou sound like one of those annoying americans....(Original post by Add!ction)
The reason that you even get to voice your opinion is because you're living in a country that respects free speech. -
Re: England is miserable, discuss, youths
I hate where I live. I find it disgusting, its full of chavs, stupid people and I have far too many painful memories here. Thankfully I'm leaving the country Tuesday and moving to Canada for 3 months before I start (Cambridge) University in October...
I do like other parts of England though, just not here, it's awful! -
Re: England is miserable, discuss, youths
You are miserable, and as such you are projecting your misery onto the rest of the country. You are choosing to see only the flaws in your society and that is a shame for you. You say "we are so corrupt, and have a misplaced superiority complex" but I think all societies inspire a level of patriotism which encourages nationalism and a national superiority complex from the idea that their way of living is the correct way and all others should follow. (Ofc there are a few exceptions, but even many North Koreans are led to believe they are part of the greatest nation on Earth).
I'm sorry that sinister things have happened to you in this country but if you look at the rest of the world, far more sinister things happen in other countries. We have not been invaded for decades, and we have all sorts of benefits to help the people; social services, the NHS, elderly care, disability benefits, EMA (until recently), free education, university loans and grants for almost everyone, etc.
The UK is a fantastic country to reside in for most people, which is one of the reasons there has been so much immigration and things like health tourism, so I have do thoroughly disagree with your very vague and general I-can't-see-the-good-in-the-world argument.
