AQA General Studies June 25th Exam
Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone who's doing AQA GENA4 on Monday morning has any info on the pre-release material we were supposed to receive for the exam. Like many others in my school, I didn't attend the GS lessons so wasn't aware of the case study until today.
I suppose it is my own fault.
If anyone could send the case study as an attachment this would be ideal as I can't seem to find it on the AQA website. Or if anyone simply has any information ie. what the case study is about, then this would also be helpful.
Thanks!

Re: AQA General Studies June 25th ExamThis, I've just been researching a few forms of alternate energy and I'm gonna spend today reading through old news articles for the 25 mark question. Hopefully I get lucky.(Original post by StitchMad)
Anyone done any further study other than read through the pre-release material? Not sure what else you could do! :P -
Re: AQA General Studies June 25th Exam
Thanks @NatashaB5051 for providing the link to the pre-release. Have just had a flick through it now but will be giving it a good read tonight. After the England match of course

The only thing that worried me is that the instructions on the front say that 3 hours of detailed study is recommended :/ wonder if that means 3 hours of studying the resources they've provided, or independent study? Like @Aepyx said, we're likely to be asked on alternative energy sources in one of the 11-12 mark questions so this is probably what I'll be focusing on.
Thanks everyone and good luck for tomorrow!

Re: AQA General Studies June 25th Exam
I've read through (am reading through) the sources, but am rather unsure as to where you're supposed to spend 3 hours 'detailed study'
I think I might just look up a couple of things that I've heard of by name and read the top paragraph on wikipedia about them.
Our school doesn't do lessons for general studies (though wasn't a problem at AS, so hopefully won't be this year) but does anybody have any information on how to answer the questions? As in should they all be normal essays with an intro, middle paragraphs and a conclusion? The information I've found on the AQA website so far has all been balls about how to deal with the numbering system...(you write the number of the question you're answering in the little boxes at the left hand side of the answer booklet, as you do in every exam), not really all that helpful.
In the first paper, I just wrote about whatever I wanted to, really, in the style that I always do, but I felt like it was probably not exactly what they were looking for (especially with the compare and contrast the sources, it felt far too...prettied up? for the question)
Also, how long do we need to spend on each question??
So yes, any info on this exam would be very much appreciated

11 marks
12 marks
11 marks
11 marks
25 marks
Would you say about 20 minutes per question for the first four, then 40 minutes for the 25 marker? Would that be a suitable allocation? -
Re: AQA General Studies June 25th Exam
So, from my very basic calculations, it seems we should spend about 18 mins on first 4 questions (each), then 45 on the 25 marker?
These questions don't seem to be very conducive towards nicely written essays :L I can't really work out what they want from me. The first 4 don't seem to want to be essays, more just a few paragraphs of writing, probably with a conclusion of some kind...I'm not so sure where I stand with those kinds of questions
Also, oh lordy does the mark scheme make it complicated, with each of the different questions having different weightings with each of the AOs. No wonder our school didn't want us to look into it too much :L Blimey they don't half make it complicated for themselves.
I suppose it is my own fault.
cheers!
