    It seems to go...
    11 marks
    12 marks
    11 marks
    11 marks
    25 marks

Would you say about 20 minutes per question for the first four, then 40 minutes for the 25 marker? Would that be a suitable allocation?
Sorry, I didn't see this - yes, that seems pretty sensible to me (plus each of the shorter questions will have some time deducted from it for reading the new source and looking for information within the sources

Ah that should be alright then. I'm not too sure how to structure them either but providing you put a good argument forward then it should be alright!

A couple things for this exam, I actually need a good general studies grade to get into Uni so help is very much appreciated

Can anyone do a short plan on the views of source D and E please i feel comparing each of these sources will come up

Can anyone also do a step by step exam technique for each question in section A please?

    Thanks in advance

    That's my thinking, really

I've had a look through the mark scheme and it seems that all you need to do is basically show an awareness of what the source says in relation to the question and draw a small but recognisable conclusion. I shan't worry too much, then :L And I'm pretty good at putting forward my views and arguments in exams, so that shouldn't be too hard :L

The only thing I'm slightly worried about is the content for the 25 mark question. Though I'm pretty sure that so long as you have a brief understanding of what goes on in the world around you, and can develop things you've heard about into points then it shouldn't be too hard Also, with a choice of 4 questions, there'll most likely be something I feel rather passionately about

I think I'll just go to sleep now and try my best, then I can really feel like my summer has begun - although this doesn't feel like a 'real' exam, as it doesn't count towards my grades for uni, I still feel like it's been hanging over me a little bit, but yay for freedom!

Any essay plans as mentioned above ^ would go down a treat. I think we've all left it a little too late though hahaa.

In last years science and society paper - module 2 - I got 96% which is reassuring me for tomorrow, but still don't have a clue how to properly structure my writing. Oh well I've read the pre-release to death so hopefully that's all I can do

Unfortunately, I can't help with the exam technique - you can have a look here http://store.aqa.org.uk/qual/gce/pdf...W-MS-JAN11.PDF at the mark scheme for January 2011 (and there are others on the AQA website), but I plan to probably do a one sentence introduction type thing, to focus my answer towards the question, as well as to help myself focus my brain, then just write some paragraphs according to whatever I think about the question, probably not that many for each question as you only really have 18-20 mins for each, then write a conclusion that begins with 'in conclusion' to make sure that the examiner knows that I am drawing a conclusion (thus has to give me marks ), just incase what I actually say in it isn't that clear :L

Comparing sources D and E - firstly, they are both from well respected newspapers, but they are looking at totally different views of climate change (D - getting people to change the way they live, with the assumption that climate change is happening, and E - an article about sceptics). Though the formats and purposes seem quite different - D is encouraging people to actually do something, sort of an advert for their own '10:10 campaign', whilst E gives a slightly more objective article, more information than encouragement.

However, they do both focus on what humans can do (The Guardian go on about their '10:10 campaign' and they also talk about the fact that support for big changes is unlikely to ever be particularly widespread) and E suggests that the sceptics say that 'there is no evidence that human input has anything to do with global temperatures'.

Hmm. Though I suppose you could say that D is more focussed explicitly in the role of humanity, whereas E focuses on the more scientific side of it.

I'm afraid I haven't got much more than that, it's late and I'm tired :L but I would definitely start with the nature of the 2 sources you're comparing, then the content, and then draw a conclusion, something along the lines of 'They both talk about climate change and how it may affect humanity, however, they present two very different stances, blah blah blah'.

Although there are some marks awarded for good use of English, they're not significant and I'm sure that the standard doesn't have to be particularly high for it to be worthy of high marks - it just needs to be fluent, clear and concise.

This is all probably rather rambly, but I hope it might have helped a bit Do you have any ideas about what you might say?

Good luck tomorrow! Seeing as you're actually thinking about it, rather than entering the exam wondering how many Michael Jackson lyrics you can get into your answers (as many at my school did for AS), I'm sure you're going to be fine
