I have an offer from Queen's to read Law. My offer was AAA. I did horribly in C4, so much so that I fear it could bring down my entire maths grade greatly so that I don't get an A in the end.

Should I inform Queen's of this possibility of me not meeting my offer ASAP?

Only if you have other mitigating circumstances.

If not, wait and hope for the best, if you miss your offer, plead like crazy over the phone to the college's law tutors on results day.

yes, absolutely. But you will need documentary back up - medical cert. or whatever.

Yes, phone in (but to the tutor for admissions, not the subject tutor). They will be expecting you. But there is no point in pleading! The tutors will have had the results a couple of days earlier, and will already have decided whether to take you anyway or not. The phone call will simply enable you to find out whether you've been lucky or not.

First, I don't think informing them early would make any difference, it's the grade and not lack of time that sways their decision. Secondly, and more craftily, calling early shows a lack of confidence, which may seem worse than a 'shocking result' on the day, though this is trivial.

    Best of luck.

Hi there! I'm actually a Law student at Queen's at the minute - I'll keep my fingers doubly crossed for you that you'll be joining us next year! Who knows, I might end up being your college grandma... (gets out the knitting needles)

Funnily enough, I did Maths A Level as well. I can remember that everyone found either C3 or C4 a pain in the backside on the day of the exam. I had problems with C3, and walked out thinking I'd bombed it. I did indeed get one of my worst marks in Maths on C3, but it didn't jeopardise my final grade. If Maths is the same as when I did it, each module is 1/6 of your final grade - so really, if you've secured good marks on your other modules, one blip is unlikely to damage your overall grade significantly. At least try to think positively. There's nothing you can do about it now, and what will be will be.

I agree with the previous posters that you should get in touch if there are mitigating, i.e. serious medical circumstances, but I suspect that it's too late (I think you need to raise it with the exam officer at your school too?) Otherwise, don't ring in yet. Just phone up on the day if needs be. And relax! (not to scare you, but make the most of your holidays - your first lot of work might come as a bit of a shock!)

I now feel incredibly old! It seems like 2 minutes ago that I was worrying about similar things, when it was actually 2 years ago... Seriously though, results in Maths aren't as predictable as one would think.
