Re: Dentist vs Doctor !!!!!!!
you should decide based on which profession you would prefer doing! both medicine and dentistry have pretty high grade requirements anyway - and remember you need to show passion for the course you choose - DON'T choose anything based on what others want you to do / what's seems easiest

Hey, I want to do Dentistry as well. Both you need 3 A's for and over 7 A's at GCSE to be considered for a place. In terms of applicants Dentistry is more competitive as there are only 14 Dental schools compared to the 50-odd Medical ones. Choose what you want to do as a profession, as grades and the salary are pretty much the same. Good luck!

Re: Dentist vs Doctor !!!!!!!
Which one do you want to be? These jobs take a lot of time and money to study - if your heart isn't in it you won't get the grades in the long run. Also, they can be tedious and disgusting sometimes - fishing round in people's mouths or bottoms, etc. - if you don't have the passion, you won't wanna do it in the long term.
Good luck!

Re: Dentist vs Doctor !!!!!!!
You don't have to choose right now. Start your A-levels and then do some work experience both in a hospital/doctors surgery and in the dentists. Once you've done some work experience talked to some people who are or used to be doctors and dentists then make your decision. Also it depends on how well your A-levels go and what universties will accept you with the grades you will achieve. Don't rush into choosing now. Keep your options open and work hard. You might find out that in 2 years time you don't want to be either.

Dentistry is probably better in terms of Working Hours and Salary, but takes about 10 years of good grades before getting there.....(Original post by ajmal)
i mean what is the better profession as in salary, life quality etc and can i even become one of them?

Re: Dentist vs Doctor !!!!!!!
It's subjective, and varies quite a lot. Go get some work experience? And use a search engine?
And don't be fooled, both medicine and dentistry are difficult to get into. Don't go into either unless you have researched, and are sure it is what you want to do.
Btw why so set on these jobs if you know nothing about what they consist of? -
Re: Dentist vs Doctor !!!!!!!lad let me break it down to you. Unless you get 700+ in your Ukcat and get 4A's at AS level then your not and I repeat not going to get into dentistry or medicine for that matter. Period(Original post by ajmal)

Another person with these unrealistic hopes. Your not going to be a dentist or a doctor. -
Re: Dentist vs Doctor !!!!!!!If and when you get 4 A's at A level in strong subjects then i will definitely get back to you...(Original post by ajmal)
Ok i know that, but are my gsce grades acceptable or not if i get the 4 A's.
Im trying to emphasise a point here ... dont count your chickens before they hatch and definitely dont put all your eggs in one basket
On topic if you have the gcse grades to clear their minimum requirments (most unis have them) then i cant see why your gcse's wont be deemed 'good enough' -
Re: Dentist vs Doctor !!!!!!!Another piece of advice for you - med school is hell(Original post by ajmal)
thanks and i get what you are trying to say and hopefully i will try to get the A levels and if not then something else.
