Would I get rejected by a 'less academic' university?
Say if I applied with predicted grades AAA and i applied to 4 russell group universites then i also applied to a univesity which only wanted 240 points, do you think they would reject me because it looks like i would only want their university if i dont get my grades for the rest?
    Thanks

Why do you want to apply to one with such low requirements anyway? I mean I know it is meant as an insurance, but surely something around the ABB range would be more appropriate for those predictions? Unless of course, you really want to go to that particular university above any others (apart from your other 4 choices of course)

The UCAS system uses blind applications which means that universities cannot see where else you have applied to. As such it would not be possible for a university to reject you for those reasons.

Number one predicted grades mean sweet F.A!
I have just finished my a2's and my 'predictions' were based on GCSE'S results.

Pick Uni's YOU want to go to! not just the bloody elite

I'm predicted AAB and applied to uni's with those requirements. I also applied to a uni as an insurance who only wanted 240 points and I recieved a conditional offer from them only 2 days after I sent my UCAS off. There not in a position to judge whether you are only wanting them for insurance, applying to them with good predicted grades they would love to have you go there so of course they will make you an offer!

Probably not, because im sure univerisitys main aims are to look for people like you with those grades, so I cant see why they would reject you

Wrong. My friend who applied for Bristol got rejected for Law (who has 10*As GCSE, 5As at AS and also doing 5As at A2 and incredible EC's) but got accepted into UCL/LSE/Oxford. When he asked feedback from Bristol, they said to him that they wanted to accept students who's qualifications were more suited/lower for the uni.

Obviously, this doesn't happen overly often, but it just shows unis can reject overqualified candidates just like employers reject overqualified applicants.

Why the neg? This is what genuinely happened to the guy! Some people just can't take the truth/face that they were wrong.

But Bristol is a respected uni and asks for broadly speaking the same as LSE/UCL bar a grade difference...?

also food for thought since LSE/UCL demand A*AA whilst Bristol only demands AAA he, if he gets his predicted grades, likely wouldnt get into either anyway...

Obviously he was overqualified compared to the calibre of other applicants. (Such as GCSE grades, ECs and taking 5 subjects at A2 and being predicted As in all of them). It is also on a lower tier and less competitive than UCL/LSE/Oxbridge even it asks for the same grades at A2.

OP: If you are good enough to get into 4 RG unis, I don't see why you're not applying to a 5th one.

You're missing the point. He got rejected because he was overqualified. They obviously knew he has the ability to get into better unis and would reject Bristol anyway. This was for 2008 entry btw. Only AAAs were demanded but this guy was predicted AAAAA at A2.

Lots of people apply to non academic or ex collage universitys (polys) as well as the top ones just in case . If anything your more likley to be exepted by them than not! I think its a good idea to apply to quite a few even though your predicted aaa, good luck.

Seems unlikely. Universities who ask for 240 points for law are likely to be the type of uni which will regularly have places in clearing. Even if your fifth choice only fills two-thirds of its places for law with offerees, it will likely fill the rest through clearing with candidates who meet their standard entry criteria anyway, but missed their offers for their chosen universities. As such, they are not necessarily going to be playing the same numbers game as institutions such as Bristol, which will calculate their offers to avoid undersubscription at all costs. I don't think RG university strategies can be directly compared to those of ex-polys for this reason.

Just to play devils advocate here, I got rejected from my insurance two years in a row despite exceeding the qualifications for them.

I guess it's a bit different when your personal statement doesn't quite match up with the course you're applying to, but it's quite common.
