If it can be read, it can be discussed here.

Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" trilogy
Has anyone here read some of Asimov's "Foundation" books? Thoughts?
I enjoy sci-fi and just finished the trilogy last night. I really liked the story and it's probably my favorite trilogy I've ever read. However, I'm somewhat bothered by the ending. The Second Foundationers spoke of they themselves assuming leadership of the Second Empire because of their extra sense and perceived superiority as a sort of benevolent dictatorship. Through the course of reading the final book "Second Foundation," I felt hostile towards the Second Foundationers and so badly wanted Seldon's plan to fail if it were only going to lead towards a mentally superior elite ruling the entire galaxy. Meanwhile, the population would be none the wiser as to who is really pulling the strings...
I dunno, guess the ending just bothered me. I'll have to read the two books written after "Second Foundation". -
Re: Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" trilogy
Hi yes I read the original trilogy years ago-great books. Don't remember feeling any particular disdain toward the second foundation since I got the impression they were operating more of a caretaker role for humanities development-i.e. stepping in to "deal" with The Mule-as oppose to actually orchestrating everything.
I don't recommend any after "Second Foundation" (after the original trilogy so to speak). They were written so long after the originals and I get the impression Asimov wasn't writing them for himself if you know what I mean... alas good memories!
