Geography A Edexcel, Unit 3 (Mon. 25th)
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anybody is doing the two chapters; Population Change and Tourist World for the exam? Btw do you need to know both the physical and human factors of both the UK and China (Population Change)?
Other than that you can discuss any of the other chapters that are in unit 3 which are:
Economic Change,
Farming and Countryside,
Settlement Change,
Population Change,
A Moving World and
A Tourist's World
... so long as you state them in your post to make sure that it doesn't confuse people
Personally I'm feeling quite unprepared for the exam as I only started revision yesterday and I was quite shocked to see the amount of information I need to cram in before monday
but anyway good luck with the revision and I hope you haven't left the revision as late as me

Re: Geography A Edexcel, Unit 3 (Mon. 25th)
Hi, I'm doing the exact same topics as you

Lol atleast you've started your revision, I've been busy with maths and statistics exams this week, I'll probably start my revision tomorow now, I hope i've not left it too late?
How's everyone else getting on with their revision?
What grades is everyone predicting?
Please share revision advice including which topics are likly to come etc if possible.
Good luck to all!

). I would say yes, learn both, because I remember one time they gave us a 4 mark question on China's population distribution without even giving us a map... expecting us to remember off the top of our heads. The same goes for UK except they have given us maps in the past, but who knows they might not give us a map & expect us to recite it.
I'm going to prepare for the worst & learn both

Re: Geography A Edexcel, Unit 3 (Mon. 25th)I'm doing exactly the same!(Original post by tohaaaa)
I'm doing Population Change + Tourists World!
Been doing the past papers for revision
What everybodys case studies for Age Pop, Tourism, Eco Tourism and Birth Control?
The case studies I'm using are...
for ageing population = Japan, eco tourism = Lapa Rios Resort in Costa Rica, and birth control = China's one child policy. If you want me to explain any I'd be more than happy to!
I'm not doing settlement change but I am doing tourists world.(Original post by speedstar_mm)
I am doing settlement change and a tourist's world. Does anyone know all of the different topics that could come up for the 6 mark questions in each of these?
For the 6 marks, they are quite limited as to what Edexcel can ask us. But its likely to be on:
1) A case study of a resort development based on the Butler Model (I'm doing Benidorm)
2) A case study on how a country is taking on ecotourism (I'm doing Lapa Rios resort in Costa Rica)... although this was the 6 mark question in the Jan 2012 so I highly doubt they'd put it in again
3) The effects of tourism growth (socially, economically, environmentally)
4) Causes of tourism growth (politically, economically, socially).
hope I cleared a few things up, sorry I can't help you with settlement change. -
Re: Geography A Edexcel, Unit 3 (Mon. 25th)The examiners are really fickle when it comes to questions that say 'describe' and 'explain', for when you have a 'describe' question, just literally say what you see and never put 'because...' as it wont get you marks & is a waste of time.(Original post by scienceboy16)
Any more tips
How detailed do you have to go in say for a 4 or 6 mark question?
This was posted from The Student Room's iPhone/iPad App
for a 6 mark question I would make 3 points but go into quite a bit of detail to show that you have profound understanding. Include lots of data, specific place names and dates. for 4 mark questions you only need to put 2 points and explain them with less detail than a 6 mark but you still need to explain something - NEVER put simple statements.
Oh, and if you get asked to describe a graph, always put the 3 following points:
1) overall pattern (negative/positive correlations, ie when X increases so does Y)
2) give examples, point out specific data which supports the above statement (never example WHY, just say what you see)
3) give an example of an anomalies result - 95% of the time, they give us a graph which has a deliberate anomaly - POINT IT OUT!

Thanks!(Original post by lettucesoap)

I've got another exam (science unit 5) on monday as well so I've been trying to juggle revision on both. Have you been given a revision guide for this unit?? I got given one on monday and its been really helpful for making useful notes :P I'd really like to get atleast a B for this exam as I think I scrapped a C for the unit 1 exam that was last wednesday. I'd really like to get an A in geography overall but I don't think its possible but I'll remain optimistic anyway

I wouldn't really know where to start if they didn't give me a map on a question like that tbh ... btw thanks for the tips you wrote on how to answer those 4 & 6 mark questions, much appreciated

I'm doing economic change and for the effects of tourism growth I've been given around 4 case studies. Should I just memorise one HIC and one LIC?(Original post by lettucesoap)

In the June 2010 paper they asked us for a specific case study which was in the EU, so yeah. -
Re: Geography A Edexcel, Unit 3 (Mon. 25th)Yes, for the butler model I'm doing blackpool(Original post by gabyp)
does anyone know what case studies you need to know for "tourist world"? thank you!
for effects of tourist industry, We have to learn social, Economic and Enviromental positives and negatives for the following:
- Aiya Napa
- Zanzibar
- Machu Picchu
- Malham (in the Yorkshire dales) UK
And finally for Eco-tourism I'm doing Footsteps in The Gambia.
If you need help I'll be more than happy to explain any of these.
P.S: Is it neccessary to learn the case study for all 4 effects of tourist industry?
if not which ones do I need to learn?
Good luck with your revision
