You'll be fine! I actually think Biology is harder than chemistry! it depends on what you like really but i would have to say that its quite straightforward and fairly easy to do well in if you put in the work :-)
Ok i dont understand why i was negged for this?Last edited by Megantheminx; 28-06-2012 at 23:06. -
Re: Reading about people's views on A level Chemistry is worrying me!
Depends on the person. Obviously people get A*s and As every year, so some people find it easy enough. Equally, others will get low grades. This is the case for all subjects, so it's not like everyone fails Chemistry!
Presumably if you are doing it for A Level, then you would consider yourself pretty good at it, so I wouldn't let other people's views sway you too much. -
Re: Reading about people's views on A level Chemistry is worrying me!As long as you make a point of really understanding the content, you should be fine(Original post by Lucy96)
Is it really extremely difficult? Obviously I know it won't be easy, but I'm worried I won't be able to cope and will end up failing miserably!
Some people just try and memorise stuff that should be understood, which is where problems arise... I finished A-level chemistry on Tuesday, and it was my favourite subject by a long way!

Don't let people put you off, you have to give it a go yourself

Like said above, obviously some people are going to find it hard but as long as you put in the effort to make sure you understand it and revise it as you go along you'll be fine. -
Re: Reading about people's views on A level Chemistry is worrying me!
I think A-level Chemistry is ok if you are willing to put a lot of hard work in. I never found any subject difficult until I started AS Chemistry. Well, apart from GCSE Technology, don't ask me why I made myself go through that hell.
I was an A/A* student before I started A-levels but barely scraped a B in Chemistry because i'm lazy and don't do much revision for exams, that's why i'm better at things like Maths where you don't need anywhere near as much studying and you don't have to take on as much information. -
Re: Reading about people's views on A level Chemistry is worrying me!
It is nowhere near as hard as physics. (I speak as someone who has done both). Chill, you're in the same boat as everyone else.. none of you have a level chemistry knowledge, you all start on the same page. Give yourself the best opportunity by concentrating in lessons

Exam boards are a major factor when deciding to take Chemistry.

I found Biology harder than chemistry because you cannot be absolutely sure on your answer and it requires alot of memorising compared to chemistry.

Thank you all for the advice! At GCSE I found Biology much easier than Chemistry, yet I always came out with the better marks and grades in Chemistry out of all three sciences, which I can't understand but oh well! I never really put much effort into Science when it comes to revision, sadly I know you can't do this at A level and still do well. But I am determined to try my hardest so I'll most certainly not be slacking in terms of revision and effort(Original post by Emissionspectra)
It's fine it's stupidly overrated in difficulty.
Sadly I don't know which exam board I'll be on!

It is hard, but don't worry as long as you work hard you'll be fine.
But whatever you do don't take it unless you really enjoy it and want to understand the concepts!
And I do enjoy it thankfully!

Re: Reading about people's views on A level Chemistry is worrying me!
Biology is WAYYYYYY harder than chemistry (in my opinion)
Then again, I got an A* in Chemistry gcse and only an A in biology gcse.
Currently have an A in Chemistry and B in Biology (A Level).
Some people told me you *really* need maths (which you dont).
Its quite easy if you learn from mark schemes. They can't ask you anything *bizarre* and not from the syllabus. Learn your stuff (which isn't hard) and your fine.
Biology on the other hand, can practically link any topic to *anything* :/
Some people just try and memorise stuff that should be understood, which is where problems arise... I finished A-level chemistry on Tuesday, and it was my favourite subject by a long way!
