Re: Does having seven a levels help ?
I went to a seminar by an Oxford admissions tutor once who said she once invited a girl to an interview who had 7 predicted A's at A level. However, once she got there, they realised she was just extremely good a regurgitating information, without any actual real substance behind her and got rejected.
Also, I'm curious. I did 5 AS's at A level, and it wasn't even so much the work load as it was the sheer TIME it took. I was in classes from 9-3:30 every day, with no free time whatsoever in between classes. Sometimes, I wouldn't even have a full lunch hour because I was taking two foreign languages and I was required a half hour a week with a speaking tutor and since I had no frees, it had to be done during my lunch time. So I suppose my question is, where exactly do you plan to find a college that'll stay open long enough for you to get your 4hours a week in each subject? Unless you're doing some of your classes at an alternate location, like foreign languages at a language centre, then it's not possible and I doubt you'll find a college that'll let you. I had a hard enough time convincing them to let me do 5 and I dropped one by the end of my first year.Last edited by amyelizabeth2681; 28-06-2012 at 19:52. -
Re: Does having seven a levels help ?Which subjects are you doing? I saw you're taking three Maths A2s (how is that possible - don't they only offer Maths/FM? Either way, you're insane.(Original post by GreenLantern1)
Ohh I will have a very fun time. Especially when I fill in my SAQ for Cambridge. All those 100%s that I get to fill in - ahhhh very nice!

You could count ICT as a doss along with Photography but it actually is failry time-consuming so I don't.
And before you ask I am in no way whatsoever German. -
Re: Does having seven a levels help ?To be honest you don't need lots of A-Levels, as long as you have at least 3 academic ones like your Maths, further maths, physics etc you are probably more likely to get in. And Imperial sounds like a great university to go to- a close family member goes there!(Original post by ibz_kout)
I plan on applying to Imperial College next year with 7 A-levels: Maths, further maths, physics, chemistry, and 3 languages, I am predicted pretty much A*'s.
I have a job and engage in a lot of sports, for those who think I have no social life. I was wondering if that would boost up my chances?

Re: Does having seven a levels help ?
7 A-Levels is a hell of a lot to take on...though if you're not spending masses of time that you have no life, then it's up to you. If I were you I'd probably choose to just stick with 4 or 5 maximum and do EPQ or YASS instead because it's different, and shows more initiative rather than so many A-Levels.

Re: Does having seven a levels help ?No of course it's not!(Original post by ibz_kout)

I'm just saying that it is too much to take in, and jobs/unis don't really care if you've done more than 3/4 A-Levels anyway.(Original post by GreenLantern1)
I do 9 and have a social life!! Just don't waste that much time watching TV and stuff. And if you get work done at school and in some of your frees, well then you would notice, as I ahve, me and my friends (who do 4) have about the same amount of free time.

You're doing 7 a levels??? i struggle to do four AS's! I don't think you should do 7 or else you're pretty much not got any free time at all

Re: Does having seven a levels help ?I'm not doiing it for jobs/unis. I am doing it because I enjoy them. And doing more than 4 doesn't hgely affect your application at all.... but I can assure you if Iwere to get 9 As (not saying I will) then that would give me a slight advantage!(Original post by CintiaMarina)

Re: Does having seven a levels help ?Well, if you think you can cope with it all, then Im not to stop you, but don't say I didn't warn you :L(Original post by GreenLantern1)

And no it actually wouldn't, it would actually give the impression that you are quite the academic fanatic, which could be slightly worrying. Not only that, you would certainly lack some other skill, somewhere :L
