LGBTQ+ Society / Unity Bangor 2012-13
Hey new students!!
With less time now until the start of the new academic year members at the society and wider community thought it would be great if you knew a little bit about Unity Bangor and its involvement.
Overview: This is the second thread located in the Bangor University sub-forum on TSR and its this kind of time when Unity's members are looking to inform new students coming to Bangor not only about its aims and objectives but the amazing activities + things that happen!
This is the second time I've run for Unity's Web Co in the society and one of my main aims is to manage and maintain the online presence throughout the web! This page like many others serves as an anchor for everyone who wants to know about Unity and the wider LGBTQ+ community in Bangor and North Wales!! For those of you who are new the society welcomes not just LGBT people but to be honest everyone. Whether you are straight, gay, bi, lesbian or do not consider yourself to be anything it doesn't matter because our main focus throughout your university life is to create a fun, safe and informative environment for those who are just settling in! When I came to uni I moved from a different country, had no one to talk to and needed the support that societies like Unity Bangor really provide.
Moving on the society is free and open to everyone who wants to get involved! You can find us at Serendipity (Fresher's Fair) each year where you can check us out, gain information regarding Unity, LGBTea, Unity Guides and so much more! In the past we've had amazing support from our previous "Fruit Salad" club nights as well as people attending weekly meetings previously located at sites such as Braint Common Room (Ffridd site) and Bar Uno). Our LGBTea which occurs once a week has previously been at places such as Blue Sky Cafe where the LGBTQ+ community can meet and socialise!
To sum everything up Unity Bangor is free to join and for confidentiality reasons we don't hold member lists so this means that if you're gay etc and don't want anyone to know they won't know that you take part in Unity, unless of course you want people to know! Normally we hold our club nights once a month in Academi, the student's official night club which is always a great laugh and everyone is really accepting too.
For more information about Unity Guides and what they do why don't you check out the thread here: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show....php?t=1710243
