Re: Tory supporters on TSR? Explain yourselves!
i am not a member of the Conservative Party but all my instincts are conservative. Thus i vote for them. The other party trashed the education system and the economy. Apart from banning smoking the other party have done nothing of worth for the country. The new leader of the other party combines the fashion sense of Mr Brown with the charisma of Mr Brown.

Re: Tory supporters on TSR? Explain yourselves!
It has been announced the Tories are considering cutting housing benefits for under 25's...
This is excellent - it'll stop a lot of pathetic teenage pregnancies, most of whom do it for a free house and money...
This is my opinion, and I don't really care if anyone disagrees. -

Re: Tory supporters on TSR? Explain yourselves! The fact that your reasons for voting Tory are a mixture of false or unsubstantiated allegations against the Labour party, combined with comments on the personality and fashion sense of its leader, instead of actually supporting what they've done in the past 2 years (renege on pre-election promises, bring the country into a double-dip recession through dreadful ideological economic strategy, make approximately 43 u-turns per second...) says something.(Original post by the bear)

Re: Tory supporters on TSR? Explain yourselves!
I don't know why you are suprised, if it came down to a big vote, no other parties involved, of everyone who is politically/economically/socially aware or has some knowledge, roughly comes down to 50% either side, and this is a student site, where many of the middle class students choose labour over tory (its a fashion thing) and many of the middle class choose tory because their parents/community may be that way inclined.
The UKIPers, Libertarians, BNPers and some of the Lib dems, would pick tory, and the greens, socialists, minor scottish and irish parties, aswell as some lib dems, will pick Labour. -
Re: Tory supporters on TSR? Explain yourselves!
That's the thing really. I don't want to sound condescending but when someone writes a post and they just repeat headlines they've read in The Sun and make off comments about personalities, it shows a lack of understanding of politics. I've never had a debate with a right wing person for more than five minutes before it descends into politics for morons.

Re: Tory supporters on TSR? Explain yourselves!
I just want to add something here - i'm a strong Labour supporter, and probably always will be, but by no means do I question the views of conservatives. Politics are all about your personal views, and thus people support different ideals, and I see no reason to shun someone just because they believe in different causes.

Re: Tory supporters on TSR? Explain yourselves!Because many people on TSR recognise that spending ever more money (that we don't even have) on ever-expanding the self-righteous and largely unproductive public sector, on schemes that actually treat people unfairly in order to promote 'equality' and on enforcing ever more state control of the lives of individual British citizens are all grossly undesirable things.(Original post by allgrownup)

Re: Tory supporters on TSR? Explain yourselves!
Because I can't stand Labour. I think their policies are much more reactionary and short-sighted than the Conservatives (which is saying something).
At the last election I would have voted Lib Deb if I could vote, although I am now not sure. 50-50 between Lib Dem and Tory.
And that doesn't mean I love everything they do. I think Gove is a ginormous tit, and George Osbourne has his moments, but overall they represent me much better than Labour. -

Re: Tory supporters on TSR? Explain yourselves!Couldn't agree more. But things would be much better with Boris at the helm.(Original post by Fallen)

Re: Tory supporters on TSR? Explain yourselves!
I have a small question, one thing that really threw me off liking the conservative party is that how can David Cameron say that he wants people from poor socioeconomic backgrounds to get to into professional careers when he was part of a Tory fund raising event where internships/work experience placements for children at City firms were being auctioned to the highest bidder. Doesn't that suggest he wants to privileged few to remain at the top?

Re: Tory supporters on TSR? Explain yourselves!
It's common sense. Labour and Lib Dems never make the tough decisions, they are just populist nonsense. Giving out more and more money from a small minority of people is easy, what's difficult is creating a system that could stand on it's own without the need for government any more. We are heading for a disaster, especially with pensions and the unemployed young. It's all one big pyramid scheme. There are millions of people about to cash out on a scheme they didn't pay nearly enough into, and it is us the young who will pick up this tab.

Re: Tory supporters on TSR? Explain yourselves! And because, by outsourcing labour, workers get put out of jobs, and replaced by middle management who don't do much of anything.(Original post by Friar Chris)

Utilities are an excellent example. British Gas managed to make a pre tax profit of £2.4 billion this year. If they can manage to do it under private ownership, then surely it can be done under government control? -
