Re: What's a good anime?
First: Death Note
Trust me, death note is one of the best introductory anime. It relies on very few japanese tropey things (such as the whole spontaneous nosebleed thing) and damn near everyone likes it, even the people who don't usually watch anime.
After that, I recommend:
Code Geass
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Cowboy Bebop
FLCL (after you've seen a few others)
Mirai Nikki (not finished it yet, but I've read the manga nad that was real good).
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (specifically brotherhood, not the other one).
I would really not recommend something that's really long like naruto or some such to start with. Too much of an investment right at the start (plus I think shorter ones tend to be better). Pretty much not naruto/blach/one piece (don't get me wrong, I love me the bleach manga, but the OP is best starting on something shorter).
Also, people are recommending Elfen Lied as an anime. Don't watch that one, read it instead. The anime changed stuff to shorten it and it was definitely not for the better (in my opinion).Last edited by A.J10; 24-06-2012 at 21:23. -
Re: What's a good anime? If you don't mind a bit of depression added into the mix, watch Angel Beats.(Original post by EmilyAl)

It's about a boy who wakes up dead in the "afterlife" and joins a group fighting against "god". It has a perfect mix of humour, twists and mystery but it's also pretty sad, too
(but so good!!!!)
Some more I've watched recently and enjoyed are arakawa under the bridge (funny but just plain weird) and Durarara (humour, but also quite serious but with twists and mystery). Oh, and Blue (/ao no) exorcist!!!
These are all around 25 episodes long, unlike some of the more popular animes which can have around 500 or so D: so they're pretty good as starters

Re: What's a good anime?
Watch tengen toppa gurren Lagann or Full Metal ALchemist as starters and you will thank me...the come ask for more

Sure, mainstream anime like bleach, naruto and one piece are great for what they are and what they've given in terms of story style and likeablility but many fans of these would have seen just these.
Try gurren lagann and if you dont like it I'll help otherwiseLast edited by narusku; 24-06-2012 at 22:07. -
