Re: Wimbledon 2012I think he's proved himself to be the greatest clay player of all time, his record both at RG and generally in clay tournaments is insane.(Original post by kbountra)
Nadal is one of the greatest of all time- even in the present, there is no question about that.
His record against Federer and Djokovic is impressive but most of the record comes on clay courts - I think he's about even in grand slams against both Federer and Djokovic in US/Wimbledon/Aus opens.
But then 7 of his grand slams of his 11 are all at RG and only 4 from the other 3 grand slams. -
Re: Wimbledon 2012I think against Federer there was some fatigue in sets 3 and 4.(Original post by Student2806)
Murray's inability to win a grand slam boils down to a very simple problem - he can't compete with Federer, Djokovic or Nadal over 5 sets. He fares better in 3 set matches, but at grand slams he just can't maintain the level of tennis he needs to play to beat them.
I'd put that down to Murray having to run a heck of a lot more than Federer because of Fed's superb footwork and the fact that Murray was playing to Federer's backhand 80% of the time whereas Murray was often running from FH to BH in rallys. -
Re: Wimbledon 2012Haha I know right, Federer's hair is like perfect little ringlets.(Original post by the bear)
I like Mr Federer's hair... he obviously devotes considerable resources to its upkeep; maybe Mr Murray should take heed
-
Re: Wimbledon 2012Yeah, its really impressive for him as a 30 year old (approaching 31 soon) to still win a grand slam and get back to world no.1 in this current physical era of tennis. And to beat one of the other top 3 along the way to winning it, just solidifies that feat.(Original post by Makaveli_The_Don)
Federer is GOAT. Anyone that disagrees, can suck on it. -

peak audience of 16.9 million and average of 11.4 million for yesterday's final
bit lower than I thought, mainly because almost every news and media outlet were saying beforehand that there was going to be 20mil people watching -

Unless Rafa or Djokovic suddenly becomes amazing in the next few years.
It'll be extremely difficult to achieve what Federer has achieved so far though. -
Re: Wimbledon 2012I don't think Rafa will surpass him. I still think he is kind of a clay court specialist. I mean 11 grand slams, 7 on clay. He is good on other surfaces, but rarely in his career has he set the world alight on hard court or grass (of course with some notable exceptions). And he has never been anywhere near as dominant as he is on clay. I also think his injuries will continue to plague him over the next couple of years.(Original post by *Hakz*)

Djokovic has a chance, but he needs to keep up his 2010 form for the next 3 or 4 years. -

Roger will make it to 20 grand slams. Just posting this for future reference, so I can come back and say I was right
He might not even win anymore slams. One can only hope -

But I'm not having a go at Roger; I'm one of the few members of the Murray fansite that doesn't hate him. Sometimes he does make comments that are patronising and a bit disrespectful but I think they are outweighed by his general likeable persona and his incredible ability on the court.
Just like I feel that Andy's moodiness and lack of personality in interviews are outweighed by his humbleness and his incredible natural tennis ability that no man in Britain has ever come close to.
I have to say though that Roger's Wimbledon cardigan that he used to wear did make me retch every time I saw it

Re: Wimbledon 2012I think he can easily win another one Wimbledon at least, especially if it rains and he gets to play under the roof. I think he is unbeatable under the Centre Court roof. He has it in him to make in to the Australian Open and US Open finals again too. So it is possible!(Original post by *Hakz*)

Not to belittle Murray and his achievement but how can you say that when Fred Perry actually won 8 slams including 3wimbledons titles and was even the first ever to achieve a career slam? Perry was world No1 for four years. When you say no man I also feel we need to include Virginia Wade who is also among the all greats in women tennis. Murray is the best we have seen here for a long time but is very far from the best in our history in the game.Last edited by bkeevin; 09-07-2012 at 16:57.
