Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseA bill has probably been passed on TSR that means you need a TV license to watch catch up TV services.(Original post by WelshBluebird)
You only need one to watch live programmes on iPlayer. If you are watching stuff after it has aired, then you do not need a licence. -
Re: Petition: End the TV License
Don't need one, if you watch Catch Up..

Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseThe TV Licence should have gone up rather than stayed constant, so that BBC could continue covering the F1.(Original post by internetguru)

Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseI had a quick look and didn't see any bill which did so.(Original post by TheTallOne)
A bill has probably been passed on TSR that means you need a TV license to watch catch up TV services. -
Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseIf you didn't have to pay the license fee you would be able to afford sky sports.(Original post by goape)

Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseI think you need to look at the costs.(Original post by internetguru)
If you didn't have to pay the license fee you would be able to afford sky sports.
Sky sports for the year is significantly more than the licence fee. -

Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseI agree - a definite no from me. This is a poorly formatted petition.(Original post by cl_steele)
no, i like not having to sit through 10 minute advert breaks. -
Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseI don't see how they would pull this off effectively as the two streams would be running at different times so would be a nightmare for live streams if they wanted to accommodate advertisements into only one of them.(Original post by internetguru)
Okay how about we have two options available the free and premium options. Premiums pay the equivalent of the license fee and get no adverts whist free people get adverts. -
Re: Petition: End the TV License
It's worrying that the Government were actually considering something along these lines.
Why?(Original post by RoryS)
I agree - a definite no from me. This is a poorly formatted petition. -

Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseThe BBC only has 2 additional streams on Freeview (1 after the Olympics), so how would they be able to fit in 8 non ad clones of the existing channels?(Original post by internetguru)

Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseI don't know I just don't feel having a license to watch TV is a very good idea.(Original post by 2468_James_Maaay)

Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseOnly to view live content. You can still watch replays, etc.(Original post by Ham and Cheese)
You need to have a TV license in order to view programmes on BBC iplayer.
I'm generally quite happy with the BBC (other than how they ditched the Formula 1!) and I enjoy the lack of adverts. I wouldn't want to lose that.
Maybe they should recover all the taxes that they're failing to collect. Didn't Vodafone swindle their way out of a lot of tax money? If they do feel charitable enough to drop the TV license, don't make the citizens 'pay for it' in a different way. Ultimately, the TV will cost something. Either time, or money, or quality... Or all 3. -

Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseI feel that there should be a little introduction/preamble to the main contents of the bill then go into what the petition calls upon the government to do.(Original post by JPKC)
Why?
There should be more of a structure the sub-headings in bold maybe and the numbered clauses indent to the right slightly. -
Re: Petition: End the TV LicensePetitions are made by the general public, it is the duty of politicians submitting bills and motions to format them to your personal tastes.(Original post by RoryS)

Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseWell, with the general public I understand this view, but as you're a keen member of the House you should make a bit more of an effort. It doesn't take much.(Original post by internetguru)

Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseWell it is numbered and easy to read yet you complain about the lack of a preamble and subheadings. Stop being a child, you understand the concerns of the public and why we want to rid our country of the TV License so why do you demand a preamble? Subheadings are not necessary it is easy to follow and you are just being picky for the sake of it.(Original post by RoryS)

Re: Petition: End the TV LicenseSo you think all TV channels except the BBC are dreadful?(Original post by NR09)
No. I think it's great that we have such a relatively unbiased media source in the uk, free of adverts, that consistently produces top quality television.
I have watched tv in America, and it is dreadful. -
Re: Petition: End the TV License
What a rubbish idea. TV licenses fund the BBC, which is one of the very few things Britain can still be proud of. If TV licenses are scrapped, BBC programming will be riddled with paid-for advertising, and at that point the BBC will become like any other corporation. Consequently, the quality of programmes will decline in favour of more "mainstream" content to ensure that advertising revenue is sufficient to cover operating costs.

The BBC unbiasded? You have got to be joking! It's one of the most biased media outlets out there!(Original post by NR09)
