Economics vs Politics
I'm about to finish my GCSEs, and I have a question about choosing A levels.
At the moment, I have picked Maths, English, History and Politics. However, I'm thinking about changing Politics to Economics. I know that Economics is more respected than Politics, but the issue here is teachers. There are two politics teachers at my school, and they're both fantastic. However, the Economics teacher is... boring, and according to the year above, not a very good teacher.
My question is whether it would be worth switching to Economics from Politics, as both courses interest me and I want to do interesting subjects. I've heard that politics is a bit formulaic at A-level. I also want to be in a good position when it comes to university applications.
If it helps, I'm thinking of applying to English, History or PPE.
tl;dr: Good teacher, less respected subject or more respected subject, not so good teacher? -
Re: Economics vs Politics
Take the one that you think you'll enjoy more and be more likely to stay motivated in.
You have 3 strong subjects, and although Economics is seen as being stronger, having Politics wouldn't disadvantage you as it goes well with your other choices due to the skills you need for it (good essay writing skills and analytical skills).
Politics and Economics do overlap a lot, but Politics focuses more on the policy side of things and the political impact of economics
Politics does have a formula, particularly at AS where it's more knowledge based, but at A2 it's really interesting as you study things in more depth and are able to analyse a lot more
