You shouldn't have chosen English Lit - worst A-Level.
Hey, remember you from the pundits thread!

Tell me more? There's always time to swap... it suits my set and general enjoyment quite well, but I was considering a MFL in that slot...

Great! And my main focus is to do Veterinary. Then if I am unable to do so, Zoology! However I'm starting to take an interest in a History degree too. So I'm glad I can keep my options open with my choices how about you?
A good tip if you are studying veterinary/medicine is to get a related work placement in the summer bc it is so competitive. All the best.

    What's so bad about it?
Well for one thing the results are very unpredictable - a guy I know is relatively smart and he got a U in the exam despite having revised and despite saying that he felt he'd done OK.

Same thing with the coursework - some teachers are just pricks and mark some essays incredibly harshly, and seeing as when they get "moderated" very little actually happens, if your teacher doesn't like your coursework, you're ****ed and there's nothing you can do about it.

Basically it's all subjective so it could end up horrifically - I know quite a few people that ruined their UCAS applications because of their grade in Eng Lit.

Not to mention that most of the lessons will contain a large amount of boring, generic BS that has no practical use whatsoever. Although this might not necessarily be the case depending on what texts you're studying.

One piece of advice if you do take Eng Lit: Write AS MUCH AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN.

Oh for real? I was genuinely debating whether to do German or Eng Lit back when I was in your position. I just posted the main reasons why I hate the subject above.

If you want to do PPE, how about Economics? Or Politics & Government? I really don't think Eng Lit will help you as a potential PPE applicant, especially seeing as you have other essay-based subjects that will be of much greater use to you - in terms of developing skills & impressing universities.

Eng Lit is mostly BS - I got 120/120 in the AS exam without reading the book, whilst another boy got an E despite having conducted comprehensive revision (he's not even stupid). A boy in my year got into Oxford for PPE and he did Geography, Maths, Economics and Politics & Government - if that helps.

I don't know yet, either medicine or something completely different like history or english! I really don't know yet, like you I'm keeping my options open!

I did Lang/Lit AS a year early getting good GCSE results and the Lit part is the hardest part, but it's the most valuable. Persevere, read and learn the vast amount of terminology you will need and you'll find it okay.

I got a high B in the coursework, A being the highest you can get throughout AS, and my exam was looking at being the same, if not a low-mid A.

Oh well that sounds very worrying, I always feel there must be some kind of error when that occurs. Though yes it has been said several times it's a very unpredictable subject. I've worried about my GCSE grade ever since I read about people being predicted As/A*s and coming out with a C or D.

And yeah I can see that being an unfair issue. My English teacher seemed to favour one girl who's controlled assessments were horrific. They were extremely dull and poorly written yet she still managed A*s.

I suppose exam boards do play an important role though, so I'll have to see! I'll be sure to take your advice and write as much as I can thank you!

I'm also going to go to a grammer school where i Will be studying Biology, Chemistry, Physics and German
Same- except my school won't let me do German because not enough people wanted to do it :bawling:

I really think languages are important and I don't want to forget everything I have learned for GCSE.

Having to do Psychology instead. Meh. That's all I can say about that.

Awwww thats a shame. Isnt your school in partnership with other schools in the area. If it is then you can ask to go to another school, specially to do german. Or you just have to keep on bugging them. I think that only two people actually want to german in my year but the teacher is ok with it- and my german teacher is the deputy head which is another advantage.
    Keep on BUGGING them! x

I'm staying at my school to do A-levels in Maths, Economics, German and Sociology.

I'm also doing a GCSE in Spanish at the same time, as my school offers it as a fast-track course for sixth formers. I've always wanted to learn Spanish

Good luck to everyone - does anyone have any ideas about what they want to do after sixth form/college?
My plans are to go into teaching those with special needs , what are yours?

wow, bringing up an old thread again!

um I don't really know, I'm definitely going to drop Economics after year 12 (turns out I hate it)
I'm probably going to take a gap year and do some travelling, then after that, who knows?

I'm staying at my school's sixth form and doing History, English Lit, Media and either Biology, Geography, Spanish, Psychology or Sociology - I can't decide on a 4th subject!

After A Levels I know I want to do History at university but I have no clue after that!

anyone considering moving to a grammar, do as much research as you can. I went for the name of it and because its supposingly in the top 5 in the country and when I got there, realised its not that great, they just select students hence why results are good. Its the biggest regret I have in my life, so I moved back to my old school for A2 and i'm so happy i did that because I actually have a chance of meeting my goal.

    Good
    luck all!

Going to either a sixth form college or ordinary college in London. Planning to study English Literature, Philosophy, History, a science (probs Chemistry) and the EPQ. Can't wait to crack on with subjects that I actually enjoy

Although come to think of it, it's going to be really challenging. Ah, well. Such is life!

I'm hoping to go to sixth form quite a while away (most places are very far from me as I am rural) and study A-Level Biology, Chemistry, Physics and AS Applied Science. If I can get 5 A's which I should then I can get onto a science honours programme which will putme through the AQA Bacc (general studies/EQP/work placements) then I am hopefully going to go to Edgehill Uni to study to become a Biology teacher.
