Should choosing your baby's gender be allowed?
Despite it being expensive, it is allowed. Do you think this opportunity should be given?

I don't see a reason why it should be allowed.. If you want to (for instance) have a boy first and you can afford to choose then why not? it may not be fair to people who cat afford it but this is the society we live in... the rich can make decisions the rest of us wouldn't even start to consider thinking about. i haven't done any research into if the procedure is dangerous or not but just biased on the question i think it should be an option to those who want it.

No absolutely not. You'd end up with an abnormal proportion of one sex or the other. At the moment it's about 49% vs 51% I believe, which is roughly even. We don't exactly want to mess with that. For a start, asian cultures would run out of women pretty quickly, as they favour boys in any case!

I don't know. If you agree with the idea that a woman's body is hers to do as she wishes with and no one else can interfere with that, then yes. So basically if you're pro choice.

I don't really think it's necessary though, but if as you say it's expensive, then I hope many people wouldn't be going for it. I'd hate to see a gender imbalance in this country like what's going on in China and a few other Asian countries right now.

I have no real problem with the theory - but in reality you can't choose the sex of your baby. You can kill an existing foetus and become pregnant with another. That's what I have moral objections to.

Not specifically on this topic, but if they start by choosing gender maybe they will also eventually be able to eradicate things like ADHD before birth. Just saying.

No. If it became more widely available the effects could be disastrous.

    That's two different things though.

I don't agree with choosing gender at all. I can understand needing to choose healthy eggs over ones with genetic diseases.

I don't think it would be that big of an impact. Most people probably wouldn't care, and I'm sure those who choose would balance eachother out.
I see no reason to object.

I don't know how this works, but the kid should have a right to be whatever gender it is supposed to be, whether it should be allowed to change it's gender later on is up for debate but it certainly shouldn't be the choice of the parents.

I don't know why, but I'd feel uncomfortable if my parents had one day turned around and said, "you know, we CHOSE you to be a boy ". Did I really want my parents having control over my gender?
And what if the kid turns out gay too? That'd be ironic.
