Racist parents threatening to cut off uni funding
In short, I'm 21 and my parents are racist and ignorant. They're threatening to cut me off financially because, since I've been to university, my "attitude has changed towards wogs" (although I never had any negative outlook to begin with) and that I've become "a liberal". Would I have any legal case were it to happen? There's no point reasoning with them, as it is of course impossible to do so with all racists.

Re: Racist parents threatening to cut off uni funding
I don't think you'd have a legal case, as your parents are not under any obligation to support you financially. Unfortunately, the university funding system operates on the assumption that better off parents will support their children anyway. With the basic loan you should manage if you're very careful, and getting some sort of part time work could help you out. I believe it is possible to secure additional funding if you are cut off from your parents, but only if the ties between you are truly severed and have been for a while.
You should try talking to your tutor and seeing if there's any way for you to apply for additional bursaries, but it should be possible for you to get by on little more than the basic loan, particularly if you start saving now before your parents do cut you off. -

The only thing I can think of is pretend to be racist, and pretend not to be liberal? Obviously explain this to your friends ie: say that your parents are quite racist, and it's the only way of getting any form of support from them
Once uni's over, screw them and their racist ways. I say this as a Pakistani who's experienced racism and honestly if you were my friend, I'd understand and I'd pretend to be offended by you, if you had to say something racist to me in front of your parents etc...
Also, in my naivety, I ask "What's a wog" I cba googling it yetLast edited by de_monies; 25-06-2012 at 23:56. -

Re: Racist parents threatening to cut off uni funding
I think my parents were rather hoping the opposite would happen to me at uni

Clearly your parents are being douches but I doubt there's much you can do except speak to your personal tutor and try to get them to help convince your parents to sort their ****ing lives out
