Republicans hold Belfast demonstration against Queen's visit
About 300 republicans have held a demonstration in Belfast to protest against the Queen's visit to the city next week.
The march, which included prominent dissident republican Colin Duffy, began on Falls Road and ended at City Hall.
Queen Elizabeth is visiting Enniskillen and Belfast on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of her Diamond Jubilee Tour.
She is expected to meet and shake hands with the deputy first minister, Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness.

Hundreds of republicans have demonstrated in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to protest against the British Queen's visit to the city next week.

A Jubilee party marking Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th year on the throne is to be held in the grounds of Parliament Buildings in Belfast on 27 June, with around 10,000 free tickets available to the public.

However, about 300 republicans took part in the demonstration beginning on Falls Road and ending at City Hall against the Queen’s visit to Enniskillen and Belfast.

The British Queen is also expected to meet with The Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister, Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness in a private room behind closed doors.

Earlier this month, Northern Ireland’s minister of culture, Sinn Fein’s Car L N Chuil N, said she would not be attending a celebration in Belfast marking the UK Queen’s Diamond Jubilee because Sinn Fein party has not been consulted.

Furthermore, republicans from across Scotland are preparing for a protest against the monarchy, organized by the campaign group Republic Scotland, in Edinburgh on Sunday July 5.

Earlier on June 3, republicans from across Britain staged a historic protest against the monarchy, at the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant by assembling near City Hall for what the Republic campaign group described as the “biggest republican protest in living memory”.

I find it funny that they want "democracy" (supposedly) and yet democracy is actually stopping them from getting what they want the irony is delicious.

When the silent majority do nothing you hand more power to the loud majority. I don't know who these nutters think they are but they just want trouble and they want the troubles to continue until they get their own way.

This march had nothing to do with republicanism. It was in support of victims of state murder! The British state broadcasting station tried to twist it.

Well why are there protests against peaceful relations then? They were angry the British head of state was to meet and shake hands with the Irish head of state. They want war. They want trouble. They would sacrifice peace until they get their way.

What type of logic is that? They hold a protest, so they want war? Does that mean that when 'republic' held a protest against your queen they wanted war?

The protest was not against 'peaceful relations'. If you watched the video you would find out what it was about.
It was against the Commander and Chief of the British Armed forces coming to Ireland. Because her forces and state murdered and maimed so many in this country. The protest was held by victims of her state!

PressTV? Do you have a more credible source? Maybe one which isn't run by an enemy government? Even Russia Today would be a substantial step up.

And yet Republicanism, regardless of where it is in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, is looking to be at its lowest ebb in a long time. It's about as serious a political movement as the Communist Party.

Mostly by the sort of people who support terrorism, never mind killing and maiming, I suspect.

Its obvious that there are still anti-British feelings in Belfast and NI, the troubles were not that long ago and even today things still happen although very rarely. Also many painful memories still exist, especially for republican Catholics who were harassed and oppressed for a LONG time by not only Irish protestants, but also the British military. Its understandable that they would oppose the figurehead of the old enemy as actions and deaths from generations ago, still burn deep in the old and new.

Whereas the mullah's PressTV is the bastion of unbiased and truthful journalism? :wtf:

This is incidentally the same group of idiotic Mullahs who tried to sell it to Iranians that the August 2011 riots were being done because "English youth...do not want monarchy".

I suggest that you choose your sources a little more carefully if you want to be taken seriously.

My sources are irrelevant, I was there, I know what the protest was about and who attended. The video is from neither of them. The sources are just there so the moderators can't yap about it being a random video.

Tbh I would rather take the word of Press Tv on Irish matters than British State tv. They have a much better record.

A credible source for what? Do you not believe it happened of something?

I genuinely rolled my eyes at this. Ok, I am going to protest just for the sake of protesting. The protests here and on black mountain achieve nothing. I hope if you oppose British rule that you aren't collecting British benefits .

It irks me that people are unable to consider the mistakes of their own community.

Plus no one even asked the Queen if she wanted to shake hands with McGuiness. I wouldn't and think I should protest that the Queen is going to shake his hand.

You can get people in NI out for anything. I could go to Sandy Row right now and make up some rubbish about how SF was planning to bring a bill to stop singing 'God Save The Queen' at public events and there would be an equal-sized march with an hour.

I have no doubt that it happened but you aren't helping your case by acknowledging PressTV as a News Source when its purpose is to spread propaganda to weaken the British and American governments. There are surely other news entities critical of British and American policy which aren't controlled by enemy dictatorships? Couldn't you use one of them?
