Its funny, if England played that way under Capello you would slaughter him for it. But good old Woy, nothings his fault....

The team isnt ****e, England have very good defenders, Cole,Johnson, Terry, Lescott, Hart, and some good players in midfield and attack. How did he get them further than anyone expected? He got past the group stage, im certain EVERYONE expected that with a bad france team, sweden and ukraine in our group, if England didnt get past the group stage it would have been crazy.
    THIS!!!

Watch in 5 months they'll all be saying maybe we should've had 'Arry.

Hodgson is a fraud and he reminds me completely of Lars Lagerback for Nigeria.
We played exactly like England in this euros we lost to Greece and drew to South Korea. Embarrassment.

I'm guessing you were one of those who didn't see why McLeish was getting such bad press when he was first hired....

Considering he won Blues the carling cup en-all

What? What has Hodson done, in 37 years of being a manager, to warrant being called "fantastic?". Hes bloody awful.
Well, it had to be an English manager and he still has more honours than Redknapp whose FA Cup victory may be stripped in other jurisdictions, which leaves one Intertoto Cup in 30 odd years too. But if the FA sack a very decorated manager in Capello perhaps and don't have any capable English replacements coming through their coaching system perhaps they should shoot themselves in the foot anyway?

Rooney being **** yesterday is a total myth. All our attacks went through him in the 20 minutes when we were good, and he created our only clear cut chance. He didn't do anything for the 100 minutes when the whole team wasn't doing anything, but that's a pretty weird situation to single someone out in.

What I don't get is Ashley Youngs blame too.

In united he doesn't track back as much as he has Evra good enough to do all that, I'm sure Cole can do same role. He's attack orientated. Considering he was able to do those defensive duties and still even contribute to attack to me I'd commendable considering he doesn't do this on a day to day basis.

If I was England manager I'd simply set the team up like manchester united, with a rugged get at em approach, don't let teams settle on the ball.

Well yeah, the difference is it's impossible to know whether Young was being told to track back by the coaches which wouldn't be his fault, or if he was just unusually tentative which would be. I mean we can make assumptions on what the team talk is, but they're not very educated or detailed. We can usually judge attackers by how they attack (Rooney was probably the only OK attacker on the field), defenders by how they defend and midfielders by how they pass, but it's harder to judge midfielders by how they defend because they may have different roles in different schemes. Maybe Young was doing his job or maybe he was consistently making mistakes. Obviously it's dumb to have him as a scapegoat for the shootout though, which is what people are really doing - seeing him missing a penalty then trying to create a narrative that makes their opinions look smarter than just "hurr durr he dun missed dat penalty."

Nah it was clear there was a system every time they went through the left, he was following the movements of one player, whilst cole watched the other.

Shearer said he'd been poor throughout the tournament which I think is unfair

Sorry, but you're clueless. Johnson is inferior to Richards and Walker in all respects.

I'd say you're far more clueless, Johnson may not be as strong as Richards, but technically hes far better than both. The whole England set up agrees with me also.

Defensively Johnson edges both to be honest which Hodgson's more concerned about. He focuses more n defence than going forward whilst the other two are quite attack minded.

His tactics were fine, the technical ability of our players is what let us down.

Of course 'Arry would've won the EUROS wouldn't he?

    You absolute whopper.

    You're an idiot.

You play to your teams strengths not play as if your going down like the titanic.

Harry would've put on a more admirable performance and I'm almost certain would've given this Italian team more of a game.

    What team do you support?

Thank you, for those putting in redknapp, you might as well have hodgson, who has managed an international side before and has experience, he's also managed more big clubs than redknapp ever has. He can handle the egos of the dressing room too, only problem is his tactics.
Which there was no need to use vs italy who aren't really a team who dominate possession all match, would have been good against spain or germany though. I guess though there was only so much he could do with that team, if he had the players available that he needed, he could have done better.

Johnson is only better at attacking than richards, but richards is solid defensively and has more presence bombing down the wing, walker is a right footed version of ashley cole in all honesty so he's obviously better too.

We would've got battered off the French and beaten off Ukraine if 'Arry was manager. Don't kid yourself.

    What are our strengths exactly?

Our centre of midfield has zero creativity :lolwut:

    Whopper.

    You're not serious.
Johnson is the worst defender of the 3. johnson is always out of position, he was better vs italy, but I don't see why they were giving him so much praise when cole was handling maggio and abate(the two better wingbacks) and was never caught out of position.

Pace, someone who can hold the ball, a player who can pick out players pirlo style, quite defensively sound. Again you play to your strengths play Gerrard in a more central role he would've created so much more.

Funny thing Walcott is deemed a hero, he's so **** - he himself doesn't even know how he did what he did at this tournament.

I'm an Arsenal fan so I've seen him regularly, his ability is so poor. Just pace.

I said he is more defensive minded compared to the three which Hodgson is looking for, he's not too attack minded whilst the other two are... No doubt he will get forward when he can.
