What do you think about this - Everything you think you know about losing weight:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/ar...ing-wrong.html
I totally agree with it. I took up this mindset around 2 months ago and have been losing weight steadily, healthily and I've not slipped and overate. What do you guys think? -

Re: What do you think about this - Everything you think you know about losing weight:I do agree, a lot of the news from Daily Mail is portrayed badly and is mostly about Celebrities but I follow this way of eating strongly so thought it would be a good debate.
Only reason I came across the Daily Mail website was because I was watching This Morning and voted on a poll about some story. -
Re: What do you think about this - Everything you think you know about losing weight:It's not a 'debate'. It's pretty damn obvious and is overwhelmingly accepted by people in the fitness industry who aren't snake oil salesmen.(Original post by KillForOreos)

People will fall for anything but common sense.
Regardless, this is an acceptable article that aims to correct the retarded eating habits of the general population.(Original post by MeGusta)
Why does everyone get there info from Failmail...90% of the news on there is crap.
EDIT: Also, this should be in N&S really. -
Re: What do you think about this - Everything you think you know about losing weight:
Nothing I haven't known for years but glad you found it helpful OP. It's good to share and educate others. Most dieting is extreme. A healthy balanced diet of unprocessed food has always been the moderate line, yet we continue to see extreme and unfounded diets showing their heads.
Funny it mentioned butter. I've always refused to give that up. It has plenty of good health benefits but everyone is margarine crazy. Margarine tastes rubbish too, better off with the butter and vegetable oil mixes they sell nowadays, like Anchor in the tub. -

Yeah, it is a great article and does make actual sense. -
Re: What do you think about this - Everything you think you know about losing weight:
Good article. I disagree about "count calories to lose weight" though, since external factors affecting this (like the mentioned fat burning efficiency) aren't that common.
That woman in the photo should probably stop reading the article and allow herself a bit more sugar..Last edited by tooosh; 25-06-2012 at 15:22. -
Re: What do you think about this - Everything you think you know about losing weight:
Yeah, good advice, but nothing I hadn't heard of before, it's just majorly disheartening that so many people and businesses/industries are still flogging this 50 year old out-dated incorrect bull****.
Also
"‘But you’ll never get fat eating avocado and salmon,’ says James. ‘For a start, they contain omega 3 fatty acids, which as well as being heart-friendly, also help your body to burn fat more efficiently."
... I've never heard of omega 3s helping your body "burn fat more efficiently", would love a source on that
otherwise couldn't agree more with most of the article -
Re: What do you think about this - Everything you think you know about losing weight:This is why the general population are in such a **** state health/fitness wise. Opinions don't compare to facts but for some reason, when it comes to fitness people think that they do.(Original post by KillForOreos)

Surprised to see the Daily Fail post an article that actually goes against the grain of conventional wisdom (or bull**** to put it less politely). But yeah, anyone who has done any *decent* research into diet/nutrition knows all this already, it has been known for years, nothing new.
Disclaimer: I didn't actually read the article beyond the subtitles because I imagine they'll still find a way to include loads of nonsense and brosience.
Edit: HFerguson confirmed my suspicions.Last edited by Shawshank; 25-06-2012 at 23:28. -

Thanks to those that do agree, yeah I have had eating problems for a number of years now even though I am only 20 and I've tried out a list full of diets that just make you gain weight in the long run.(Original post by tooosh)

I know it is common sense though some people see it negatively. I wish people would listen then they'd not be ruining their bodies.

My housemate is the same, he is fat and trying to lose weight and he's doing it by stop drinking fizzy drinks and instead drinking 2 cartons of fresh juice a day. I just let him get on with it, the worst other people look, the better I look.

Re: What do you think about this - Everything you think you know about losing weight:
Here's how people diet; they find a 'way' of eating, backed up by 'science' and then go out and find all the proof they can on the said diet, and argue with anyone who tells them they can/should eat any differently.
Any diet is simply a caloric restriction, nothing else works for weight loss, how you do that is purely up to you.
You can find 'proof' for vitually any diet imaginable, but really it's all about calories. There was a guy who went on a twinkie diet, to prove a point that it's all about calories.
Also, for the anti-carb people, look at this:

The key with dieting is finding something that is manageable by you. That's the only secret. -
Re: What do you think about this - Everything you think you know about losing weight:
Despite it being the Daily Fail, it's largely accurate.
Dietary 'fat' does not make you 'fat'. The association is almost entirely due to the words used. A large proportion of fat isn't even digested (and thus comes out the 'other end', so to speak) and that which is absorbed is largely made into cholesterol and hormones, not stored as bodily fat.
Body fat largely comes from carbohydrates (especially sugars, but all of them) since they are very, very easily absorbed and broken down into units that can be easily polymerised into triglycerides -> bodily fat. Since they raise blood sugar, they stimulate insulin secretion as well, and hormonal activity of insulin increases fat deposition and reduces fat metabolism.
Low fat mayonnaise, skimmed milk etc. are largely pointless, the fat content won't do squat to you.
More amusingly, go compare Hellman's Mayonnaise to their Light Mayonnaise - the latter has a ****-ton of sugar in it that the former doesn't that absolutely is fattening.
