    PLEASE HELP! DIY prom hair...
Please read and help me out if you can!!

So our school's year 13 prom is on a Sunday. It's in quite a posh venue so everyone will obviously want to look really nice... But since it's a Sunday no salons are going to be open, so I have to do my hair myself.

    Details:-

    - My dress is dark blue, fitted and has detailing around the straps. Here's the link if you wanted to see it... It looks better in real-life than it does in the picture haha  http://www.axparis.co.uk/products/Je...ted-Dress.html

    - My hair is medium-long in length (reaches just below where the embellishments on the dress finish) and is a medium-brown colour.

    - I would quite like to have my hair down, maybe loosely curled, but I'm open to updo suggestions as long as it doesn't involve ALL of my hair being pulled away from my face. I'd like to keep some strands/curls loose at the front.

    - Umm not sure what other info might be useful. I'm fairly tall (especially once I get my heels on ha), pale-ish, blue eyes, slim. The venue is quite posh, we're having a sit-down meal, dance, bar, etc etc.

Thankyou in advance for any suggestions, your help is HUGELY appreciated. Any tutorials/tips/etc will be really helpful!

    I love your dress :P
Mine is this Friday and I'm just going to straighten my hair, but flick it inwards so it frames my face ;D
If you wanted curls you could curl the whole thing (but that would probably take a while considering your hair length :P) or just a few and let them blend in with the rest of your hair, it's really down to personal preference :P What is your hair natural? Wavy or curly or straight?

This is a great article for hair styles and there's also some nail art techniques etc which you could take inspo from. I've personally tried out and sported the 5th hair style before and it's super easy and you can have strands of hair coming down if you want to, I did. It works.

    Aw thanks!

That sounds really nice! I wish I could do that, but when I straighten my hair it goes really flat
Hmm, yeah curling all my hair could take a while. I was wondering about using rollers for loose natural-looking curls, I have some somewhere but I have no idea how to use them!

My natural hair is quite annoying... It's wavy (in a messy way, not in a cute way ha) and has a bit of volume, which unfortunately is instantly lost as soon as I straighten it! Random bits of it are curlier than others, some parts are almost completely straight. Yeah my natural hair is a bit of a mess all in all!

My hair goes flat when I straighten it too, but if you curl the straighteners out when you straighten it, like from the roots it gives it a bit more lift (if that makes sense) and then, once I've straightened, I stick my head upside down and hairspray the roots, when you're the right way round again it has loads of lift, then I have to pat it down
    Hope that helps

For my prom I did this but with a side fringe and the bouffant part was neater

It's super easy to do, just curl your hair but don't curl the top as much then back comb the top into a bouffant style and pin it, this also looks good when it's a bit messier like in that picture I showed you.

Another thing you could try if you wanted to be different is a pin up style, I was messing about last night and came up with this, I have to just link you to a picture of my hair because I can't find anything like this off the bat

This is also super easy, you just curl your hair and then at the top you do victory rolls in your hair (Plenty of tutorials on youtube and they're easy to do!), my curls were quite loose but if you wanted a more authentic prom look you could certainly make the curls tighter and give them a wee spray of hairspray.

I love your dress and I do think a half updo is the way to go so you can show off the embellishment on the dress and your earrings

EDIT: waterfalls braids can also be beautiful

These are also super easy to do, this is a tutorial how.

I really like your suggestions, thank you very much!

I think you're right, I should probably look for a half updo to show off the detailing on the dress. Glad you like it

Thanks again for your help! (and can I just add, I love the colour of your hair :awesome:)

Get a bun ring, it's the easiest way to get the perfect updo by doing it yourself. You cannot fail. Best of luck! xo
