Re: Atheists - What would you do if you found yourself in heaven?
I'd admit I was mistaken but I wouldn't feel bad abou it since I came to the best conclusion given the evidence I had. Then I would feel amused that after my constant sinning and opposition to christian views I'd still manage to get into heaven. Depending on my mood i'd either sit around enjoying myself of go and complain to god about all the problems he is leaving for the people still alive.
I certainly wouldn't convert since I've already got the prize so there is no need. Even if god exists doesn't mean he automaically deserve my worship.Last edited by Aoide; 25-06-2012 at 17:37. -
Re: Atheists - What would you do if you found yourself in heaven?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! YES PLEASE!!!
The only issue I have with - and this is quite sad how much I've thought about this - is that I'm 17 so I'd be really behind.
Plus, if I was reduced in age to 11, my consciousness would be different so it wouldn't actually be me who gets to experience it! I suppose, I could be made into an eleven-year old with the same consciousness... that would work!
And er, the original point: I'd be pretty chuffed.
The idea of heaven seems incredibly lovely and wonderful, and occasionally I do wish I believed.

I'd still be skeptical: why does the world exist as it does if there is an omnipresent omnipotent and infinitely (or even broadly) positive character out there? Possession of a heaven wouldn't really change my attitude with regard to that.

I would check out the afterlife and find out if there is any actual facts in any religion. If not then see if afterlife is just an undiscovered part of nature (aka not due to a god/higher being) or if a god/higher being actually does exist and all the religions were just created to be another method of controlling people.
At the moment I do not care for religions but readily support the personal belief in higher beings or deities. You should be free to take support and comfort from what you want to and in the way that works best for you. The belief and rituals (if there are any) should fit the individual, NOT the other way around.
These are just my thoughts as the person I am at the moment with the information I know. -

I think the actual question is what would they do when they ended up in hell

Re: Atheists - What would you do if you found yourself in heaven?
But you wouldn't be in heaven, by default you would be in hell. If you dont praaaaise jebus then you go to hell remember?
So this situation could never occur
Believer + death [ +weighted factor for church contributions] = heaven
non believer + death = fiery torment -
Re: Atheists - What would you do if you found yourself in heaven?
I suppose first thing would be to find out which god it was.
I'd hope the place was big enough to get far away from fundies of the obnoxious variety. They'd be insufferable if they found out they were right all along. What they wouldn't realise is that though they got the right conclusion, they were wrong to believe it before the evidence was presented. Non-believers aren't wrong in their conclusion. They haven't come to one! It's as though someone puts £1million on red at the casino and wins, attributes it to skill of some sort and says those who didn't bet are stupid.
I'd hope that my whole definition of happiness had been altered by the boss. I wouldn't be happy facing an eternity of consciousness so he'd have to do something about that. Of course, this opens up all sorts of possibility. Maybe heaven is a lake of fire and eternal torture but God will change our minds to enjoy that kind of thing.
Then I guess I'd just find a computer with the internet (heaven has the internet right?) and carry on like normal.
