Re: Favourite Airline?
Must say despite the strikes I do love BA, we flew with them from Newcastle to Heathrow which the plane was lovely, leather seats and free sandwichs and drinks. Then from Heathrow to Tel Aviv which the plane got delayed by two hours on the runway thanks to a storm but the cabin crew were just lovely about it we ended up getting free drinks and they put the tvs on for us so we could watch films e.t.c before take off.
But thanks to the delay I managed to see the sun rising on one side of the plane whilst if I looked over to the other side it was still night time and it was magical it's an image I will always have in my memories so yeah haha although I do want to test out El Al and I know Emirates and Virgin as well as Qatar all have great reputations! -
Re: Favourite Airline?
British Airways as it's the only longhaul I've ever used which was on my only trip out of Europe. London Heathrow to Orlando, Florida.
With regards to short haul, I went on holiday to Spain a few years back from Gatwick, but went with two different companies (1 there, 1 back), I would definetely fly with Monarch again, because they are a great airline, but easyjet I'm not really as keen on - could be due to the fact though that was a VERY early morning flight and we hit a load of turbulence whilst passing through southern France on the way to the UK, plus the fact I hate flying and had no other alternative but a Burger King at the airport as everywhere else was closed due to it being ridiculously early in the morning. -
I flew BA this week, and although it was comfortable, the entertainment left much to be desired in comparison to Emirates and Air Canada. The advertised entertainment wasn't even what was available on the flight =\
We were then delayed because of some passengers having a short stop over and their connecting flight being delayed which was a pest, especially since we had no entertainment during that time.
Plus, they ran out of all their drinks except water and apple juice, and possibly alcohol, but they stopped coming through the cabin offering drinks because a lot of passengers just went to the galley to get them, and there were passengers blocking the isles by standing and talking to their friends and family.
They didn't offer drinks with meals to those who didn't have the standard meal - I had ordered a special meal with my flight but wasn't offered a drink with it whereas my parents were given a drink with theirs, I didn't even get a chance to ask before the air hostess had rushed off to the next passengers.
I suppose a lot of the problems on that flight were down to a lot of inconsiderate passengers though- standing in the isles, putting their chairs back as soon as the seatbelt sign was off then rocking the back of their chair, kicking the backs of the seats, all the usual stuff.

Re: Favourite Airline?
I've flown to the US (East and West coasts) with Virgin, BA and United.
On most counts I prefer Virgin and if I can afford they're the ones I'm most likely to go with. Generally good inflight entertainment, lots of food and drink (as well as free alcohol).
Due to strikes we were told our BA flight was cancelled, so booked onto one the next day - went to see if we could check in/print boarding passes the night before our flight and they were checking in/boarding for the flight that we'd been told was cancelled! Other than that they've been okay.
United are okay - but entertainment isn't brilliant and if you want alcohol you have to pay. I did however managed to somehow get Economy Plus (Economy seats with an extra couple inches leg room - when you're as tall as me it's pretty wonderful!) seats without paying extra on one of my trips with them. Wasn't so lucky last summer

Re: Favourite Airline?
Qatar hands-down.
Etihad and Emirates especially are waaay too large to have give the proper service their prices command, in terms of first and business, its not worth the money. Yey hot hand towel on take off = great airline, they know their stuff. No, i'd rather Ryanair it than spend a minute in the cattle shed that is emirates/etihad economy service.
Heading the other way, I always enjoyed the service I got with Continental, however, the United merger has changed the set up, and i'm not too sure about it now. In general, US airlines don't have a patch on European/rest of the world airlines.Last edited by AeroLB; 05-07-2012 at 20:47. -
Re: Favourite Airline?I've heard awful things about all US Airlines, apart from Southwest, I've always wanted to fly on them!(Original post by AeroLB)

I like air Canada because they actually went when it was raining a several in the past, when all the roots were terminated.
As for favourite airline, Air France's new 777s are NICE. -
Re: Favourite Airline?
Favourites: British Airways has been consistently good, Cathay Pacific is usually excellent. Icelandair was lovely too, but you're only on there for about 4 hours!
Not-so-favourites: flew Virgin Atlantic to Tokyo and my TV didn't work - they fiddled about with it for a while, but said nothing could be done and there were no spare seats, so that was a joyless 13 hours. Another time we were flying to Hong Kong and a flight attendant didn't know that my mum could understand Chinese - she proceeded to slag us off in Cantonese and we were left pretty damn upset. So I have yet to be impressed by Virgin.
Once we had to wait for an extra hour on an Iberia flight because they had "put too much fuel into the aircraft", thus the plane was too heavy to take off.
or even Qatar and Itihad...
