This is like the Laura Marling predicament again...

He's not exactly folk, but his songs have folky elements.

The better known ones are 'I Still Believe', 'Try This At Home', 'Photosynthesis' and 'Long Live The Queen'.
Cool, thanks! I'll take a listen now...

Instantly impressed with 'I Still Believe' and currently listening to 'Long Live The Queen'. He's great, thanks for introducing me.

I'm not really into folk at all, but Frank Turner is one of my favourite artists of all time.

All the Frank Turner love in this thread is great. One of my favourite artists and an excellent lyricist.

Thanks to the people that mentioned Jake Bugg in here too. Been listening to him most of the day.

I'm pleased you like him. I'm a massive fanboy, haha. If you properly get into him, he covers some old English folk, like 'Barbara Allen'. He doesn't really have a particular genre, cause he used to be in a hardcore punk band and has a lot of heavy influences, but plays predominantly on acoustic anyway.

Yeah, it was a band called Million Dead. Not really my cup of tea, but I do love his Wessex accent.

I'm rather looking forward to Mumford's new album, but I was genuinely gutted that they're not playing Reading/Leeds this year. I thought they were shoe-ins .

Oh man! I haven't been to Reading/Leeds yet, definitely cannot afford that. I'm not the biggest fan of this years line up though if i'm honest, there's a couple of bands/artists i like such as The Vaccines, Bombay Bicycle Club, King Charles and Bastille but that's pretty much it What University are you at/thinking of going to? (If you're wanting to go of course)

By quite a stretch... I'm glad I'm not alone in my admiration of it!
The lyrics . The guitar. His voice. It's just perfect. I like his other songs but this one's a true masterpiece.

I've just about scraped the money for Reading this year. There are a few I'd see... The Vaccines, The Black Keys, Graham Coxon, Foo Fighters, Billy Talent (if they weren't going to clash with the Vaccines ), Jake Bugg and The Cribs will be on my 'must see' list. I'll otherwise go with an open mind and a lot of booze, haha.

I'm hoping to apply to read history at Durham, Exeter, Nottingham, York and Sussex. Durham would be the absolute dream, but my selection and chance there depends heavily on my AS results. Yourself? (although we might want to continue this avenue of conversation by private message, so as to not go off-topic from wonderful folk )

Absolutely! His guitar is immense; it's a resonance acoustic. They cost an absolute bomb >_< I wish I could afford one.

hmm, would Comus classify? I suppose it's acid folk...when I heard First Utterance I was completely addicted!! I would have to say either Nick Drake or John Martyn

And Roy Harper! Laura Marling is VERY good, too. And the collaborative album between King Creosote and Jon Hopkins; Diamond Mine is some of the most beautiful music I have heard.
