Quite clearly, Muhammad
his first biography (by Ibn Ishaq) is available here http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Life-Muh...0723821&sr=1-1
he was, actually, a nasty guy : vain and revengeful
quite the opposite actually. -
Re: Who do you think the most over rated person in history is and why?Was it? I really can't remember. Sheepish face.(Original post by M1011)
Rheinhard Heydrich -
Re: Who do you think the most over rated person in history is and why?Probably referring to your support of humanitarian military intervention. ak137 was never one to make useful distinctions, all rhetoric and accusations of being a imperialist/war-mongerer.(Original post by Suetonius)
I'm sorry? Considering I used those things to explain how Churchill is "the most over rated person in history" then I can't see how you inferred that I "supported" them. -
Re: Who do you think the most over rated person in history is and why?If you think we got through WW2 because of luck, you are wrong, very wrong.(Original post by Suetonius)
Winston Churchill. WWII, and his oratory, was a lucky break
Churchill was instrumental in rallying a country facing the bleakest situation it had ever experienced. The UK would have collapsed in 1940/41 had Neville Chamberlain stayed in office. -
Re: Who do you think the most over rated person in history is and why?Alexander's conquests led to the adoption of Greek as a lingua franca throughout the eastern Mediterranean and the partial Hellenisation of many ethnic groups, including the Jews. Had it not been for that then Christianity might never have spread beyond Judaea, and even if it had it would never have gained many Gentile converts. I'd argue that while Constantine introduced the religion to remote parts of Europe, it was Alexander and his successors who made Christianity possible at all.(Original post by Romanorum-Hellas)
His military achievements were extraordinary indeed. In almost all the major battles he fought, he was severely outnumbered and used tactics which were well beyond his time. However, if you look at other people in history who have the term 'Great' put to their name, they often had more permanent and imperative effects upon the world. Constantine the Great was great because he was not just a good commander, but also a wise and kind politician who granted a fair amount of religious toleration in an age where religious conflict was rife. He also has one of the most permanent legacies because it is unlikely that Christianity would have penetrated much of Europe if he had not made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. The only region of Asia that Alexander left a strong Greek influence in was Egypt, which disappeared with the rise of Islam in the 8th century anyway. -

Re: Who do you think the most over rated person in history is and why?The rest of the world knows how bad **** mental he was though, and he will be remembered in history as such.(Original post by KasanDude)
Kim Jong Il. Considering his people worshipped him as a god-like diety though he brought starvation and poverty to most of his country... -
Re: Who do you think the most over rated person in history is and why?In the whole world, yeah hes not overrated. But considering relatively few people are "rated" by the entire world, its hard to find a name that a lot of people know, let alone think is awsome when not.(Original post by DaveSmith99)

Pippa middleton. it ain't that great tbh.... -
William Wallace...if it wasn't for the utterly dire film "Braveheart" then nobody would have a clue who he was. "Arblaa Kablaa" is the single worst line in movie history, but that's not a reflection on Wallace himself; nevertheless, severely overrated.

Woodrow Wilson - for the main reason that he was a KKK supporter.
