Why the world government doesn't exist?
I have been arguing with couple of my mates why the world government doesn't exist. My argument was that people are naturally greedy and sellfish and that any society is a product of such selfishness aiming to achieve higher return on their actions, which individual governments seem to be able to give (or promise) to people whether they would get less from united world government (in their opinion). However i think in distant future it is possible to have united government, if there would be a threat a huge tehnological advance, so people would be forced to unite in order to become stronger and more efficient.

Re: Why the world government doesn't exist?... One person can make a hat with speed x and gloves with speed 2x
Another person makes a hat with speed 2x and gloves with speed x.
Winter is coming shortly and they are lacking time, so in the face of danger they unite together to be more effecient. Same happens on a larger scale. -

Of course. But why does that mean the World Government doesn't / cannot exist ? -
Re: Why the world government doesn't exist? This is what UN is supposed to be. The (powerful) countries only follow the international laws that are expedient to them though.(Original post by soempty)

I can't see such an organisation arising, though. What the ruling class of one country wants would be the opposite of the other (oil, borders, ethnic groups within countries, hell, even fishing laws).
