Going to be 17 during freshers week, what to do?
Basically, yeah, I'll be 17 for the whole of the first term of university, and I'm really not sure what to do about freshers week. I've never been clubbing, I'm told I look about 13.
It's a fair point, I'm a bit of a shortarse. I'm not against drinking, although I don't want to get completely trashed to the point where I can't stand up anymore. But I figure that a lot of people will be out checking out the clubs during freshers, and I don't want to be spending all my time sitting in my room and counting the days until I turn 18.

dress up as a paramedic and run straight passed the bouncers.
If they try to stop you just shout "It's an emergency!" and then run off screaming "Nee Nah Nee Nah"
Life's a doddle

Re: Going to be 17 during freshers week, what to do?
sucks to be you
can't you just get some fake ID? borrow someones?
btw the mistake a lot of people make when they're younger and trying to look older is to go in the "slutty" direction... you don't sound like that kind of person but usually if you are young (younger than 17) or LOOK young, like you do, it makes you look young and a bit silly... go with a more "grown up" look that usually works if you are trying to look older but look young.Last edited by Bellissima; 26-06-2012 at 01:50. -
Re: Going to be 17 during freshers week, what to do?
Ahh I was gonna be in the same predicament but I decided to take a gap year because I didn't feel like I was mentally prepared to go to uni xD
They might let you in anyway, or you could borrow someone's ID like a cousin? I know the feeling, I'm 5ft exactly and always get the dodgiest looks when I go out :P best thing to do is get the heels on and makeup, but don't put loads on or it'll look like you're trying to make yourself look older. You could also try and go in with older people if there are any, I never get questioned for ID when I go out with my mum and cousin. -

My oldest cousin is 6 years younger than me.
I live in the North of Scotland and I'm going to a uni in the South of England, so borrowing a friend's ID from up here is also kind of impossible. That's definitely an option, thanks.
Just need to get some mature students on my side.

Re: Going to be 17 during freshers week, what to do?Think it starts on the 24th of September?(Original post by Jessica_94)
what date is your freshers week?

Re: Going to be 17 during freshers week, what to do?She's from Scotland, different rules up here about school leaving ages and what qualifications you need to get into uni.(Original post by Jessica_94)
i thought everyone who left college this year was 18 by 1st september
I think your best bet would trying to find someone who's ID you could borrow. You might get away with getting in some pubs and getting someone to buy your drinks at the bar, but clubs are generally more strict with ID.
I do remember my first night at our freshers week, the student helpers at the union were handing out bands to people who were over 18, but a couple of my friends who were under 18 managed to convince them to give them some bands despite being 17, was worth a try and it worked

I was 17 the first year if uni but the union was extremely lax at my uni ao it wasnt too bad. I didnt head out to clubs as most stuff was on my campus or we had flat parties etc.
But as has been mentioned a fake id may be an option. If your headed down south then rip off a clydebank college or UHI card. One they are unlikely to have seen a lot of and so wont notice imperfections. You can just be a visiting student from elsewhere.
I remember at school everyone always had fake ids for the University of Essex and I always wondered if there actually was a uni there? -
Re: Going to be 17 during freshers week, what to do?
I am going to be seventeen til December too so I know how you feel. Personally I don't think it should hold you back- try and get into where you can with student ID and act older? And borrowing someone's id works too normally

It really worries me aha
but I'm sure we'll still have fun!

Re: Going to be 17 during freshers week, what to do?There is a University of Essex. Think they have a bit of a rivalry with UEA actually, which is where I'm going.(Original post by Tinberry)

Re: Going to be 17 during freshers week, what to do?Glad it's not just me! Yeah, I guess some sneaky acting will be required on my part.(Original post by je t'aime)

And a lot of fluttering my eyelashes.

Re: Going to be 17 during freshers week, what to do?Not in Scotland. If I still lived in England I wouldn't be leaving school until next year, but there's one less year of secondary school up north.(Original post by Jessica_94)
