Re: Boycott McDonalds at the Olympic ParkI totally agree. I mean really, the olympics should be encouraging people to eat healthily and exercise more, not get fat on mcdonalds, or damage your body(even if you are thin!!). as if the level of obesity in the UK isn't already high enough. it's just so contradictory that you would have mcdonalds at olympics when it's promoting sport. it's just all about the money today, the government and TNC's don't care about the people, so we really should boycott mcdonalds!!(Original post by GodAtum)
I want to try and encourage people to boycott McDonalds at the Olympic Park and find healthier food to eat.

Re: Boycott McDonalds at the Olympic ParkUh no, there is absolutely NOTHING to worry about in that respect. There will be plenty of proper restaurants on site aswell.(Original post by GodAtum)
My complaint is that there might be no other option to get hot food and sit down at the Olympic Park. -
Re: Boycott McDonalds at the Olympic Park
I feel that the spirit of the games seems to have been lost under the weight of corporate sponsorship and IOC demands (that somehow feel like they've been issued by a failing dictator injured by a deckchair or something).
Also spectators are being held hostage by companies as you are not allowed to bring your own drinks and you have to pay for everything using Visa. -
Re: Boycott McDonalds at the Olympic Park
The idea of a boycott doesn't really make sense here. If you don't like McDonalds food, you don't go to McDonalds anyway. If you do, you won't 'boycott' it. Am I boycotting Pret a Manger because I prefer EAT? I don't think so, I'm just opting not to go. Boycotting something you wouldn't buy anyway isn't a boycot. A boycot is when you choose not to buy something you do want, in order to send a message (such as not buying Israeli goods, not buying Nestle products etc).

Re: Boycott McDonalds at the Olympic ParkNo it chuffing doesn't, don't be so moronic.(Original post by Steezy)
But to sponsor something like the Olympics gives the impression/association that they are healthy.
Visa sponsors the Olympics. Does that mean we should think of small plastic cards as healthy or sporty? -

'Chuffing' ha!
I guess you're right anyway. I accept your chuff. -

To the people defending McDonald's with 'you can get fat on anything, like fruit, if you eat too much of it' - either you have no idea about the nutritional info of McDonald's foods or in general or you're being deliberately stupid. McDonald's and healthy foods do not compare. Have a look at how many calories and fat and salt are in a regular fries next time you're there.
I would find it very hard to eat three lots of the calories in a regular extra value meal in a day if I were to eat three or four meals with a good proportion of vegetables, complex carbs and lean meats. In fact it would probably be virtually impossible. I would feel too full. However take me to McDonald's for every meal in a day and I'll easily eat many times my required daily calories.
The point is that you can think you're eating a very modest amount of food at McDonald's and still actually be going wildly beyond a healthy amount of calories and fat and salt. While people are still extremely ignorant about just what they need to be eating (and doing, in terms of exercise) to truly maintain what should be a 'normal' level of health and fitness, McDonald's and its kin are doing nothing but making us all fatter and more ill.
The last time I was at McDonald's was maybe six weeks ago, at which point I noticed the nutritional info on the back of the nuggets and fries packets in front of me. I was so gobsmacked that I swore not to go to McDonald's again and I haven't been back since. I love their fries but the sheer amount of calories in them are just not worth it in any way.
Please don't talk about nutrition again, as your knowledge is very ignorant. Fat is not bad for you, and fat is actually required by the body. Again salt is required by the body but you, like the rest of the population, have been misled into believing its bad for you. This is done by companies trying to sell "low fat" products and forcing people into believing low fat diets are the way to go.
Please do the research before tucking into your "lean meats".
McDonald's can be eaten everyday as part of a healthy diet if you control the macronutrients and calories you eat.
What are these healthy foods you speak of? Foods which companies have advertised as good for you? There is no such thing as healthy or unhealthy foods, only foods with differing macro and micronutrients. If you get the right macro and micro nutrients your body requires, it does not matter whether they come from junk or "healthy" foods.
I think this sums up the hypocrisy of your post:
"While people are still extremely ignorant about just what they need to be eating (and doing, in terms of exercise)"
And before you argue, I am currently in the last term of my masters degree in nutrition.Last edited by canyouhelpme; 29-06-2012 at 16:52. -
Re: Boycott McDonalds at the Olympic ParkBefore you argue next time, why don't you consider not putting words into my mouth and making wild assumptions? No-one here is talking about healthy and nutritionally-aware people taking care to balance a McDonald's meal with the rest of their daily food. No-one needs the amount of fat and salt of a McDonald's meal when eating healthily (or excessively) for the rest of their meals. Your post doesn't merit a reply beyond this.(Original post by canyouhelpme)

Re: Boycott McDonalds at the Olympic Park
Three pages and not one person managed to suggest another appropriate sponsor who could afford the massive cost (most likely millions of pounds) of funding towards the Games in order to secure a large restaurant on the site.
Yes, Coca-cola, Mcdonalds, Cadburys are all major sponsors yet are 'unhealthy' foods/drinks companies (though as many have pointed out there's nothing wrong with a big mac now and then, or a chocolate bar each day, or a can of coke now and then....it's just that some people are idiots and can't control their urges)....but really, what would you prefer there?
There are going to be other restaurants anyway, but I bet most will not be able to 'process' a large quantity of people in such short time frames, at least this massive McDonalds will be able to provide people with food quickly unlike many restaurants where there will be huge queues for sit-down meals, etc.
Anyway, if you don't want to go, don't go
There will be other options. Now, where's my McFlurry...

Re: Boycott McDonalds at the Olympic ParkI think they do but they call them 'toasties'.(Original post by PrismaticCore)
This.
I don't quite understand why people don't love that place as much as I do.
Well, the only thing I would improve about it is its lack of paninis...They don't sell any, do they? -
Re: Boycott McDonalds at the Olympic Park
Only just seen this thread, since I have no plans on using my meal vouchers at McDonalds I can join in and just put it down to the boycott.
I've been told the press get the best food in the park and since I'm working with the press I get to eat what they eat
. No chance I'd swap that for McDonalds haha.

Re: Boycott McDonalds at the Olympic ParkYou're being sarcastic, right?(Original post by MissLightyear)
McDonalds have sponsored the modern Olympics since the first event, without their sponsorship we, arguably, wouldnt have the games today.
If people can't eat in moderation then it's their problem, not McDonalds'.
last time I went was three weeks ago, and before that it was about three months? And I love McDonalds!
