Would you wear these watches (guys) - female opinons also valued?
Hey Guys;
Anyway, I am thinking of getting a few gifts for a couple of friends (both guys) and am not sure whether or not people would like them. So, I would like to get an opinion on them before I buy them from everyone I can find on Studentroom (am going to give to them in a little over 3 weeks).
Would you wear one, the other or both?
The reason I chose these watches is because I have to buy the watches from a shop so my parents don't find them at the door (they would kill me if they knew I spent this much on watches for friends, I am 18). The only shops I have access to are F Hinds, Earnest Jones and H Samual. I will probably go into the highstreet when I get time to see if I missed any shops.
I suppose I could give it to the other guy later on because I know his brother. So, I can spend around £250-£280 on the watch.
Guys, to make it simpler if you don't like either watch but you want to help me out. I will provide links to the 3 shops I have access to.

Re: Would you wear these watches (guys) - female opinons also valued?I would wear the 1st one but not the 2nd. I would be flattered whichever you gave me though, they look like nice watches.(Original post by Scienceisgood)

I'm a little bit of a watch guy though

I think they're both nice. But then again I've never actually gone 'watch shopping' therefore my opinion may be a bit skewed.(Original post by Scienceisgood)

Re: Would you wear these watches (guys) - female opinons also valued?I work at a jewellery store (which also sells watches) and most male customers would go for the first watch. I, however like both and I am female(Original post by Scienceisgood)

I wouldn't wear either. They are generic and kinda boring imo. Typical Argos watches.
It's also risky getting something too personal to your tastes so you do want to play it a little safe but your choices are a little too safe imo and have zero personality.
I don't know what your budget is but you can't go wrong with a submariner homage-- a classic design that copies the original Rolex submariner. This type of design is very popular. I got the Orient below for about £77. There are a lot of amazing looking diver watches out there and they're popular because they are versatile (wear with suit or casual).
Would you consider mechanical watches? They have a lot more designs and are generally more popular. They cost more (starting around £70 for Japanese models but around £200+) but will last forever if you look after them. I think they make better gifts and seeing the movement through a back window is art and science in motion. It really depends on your budget.
Here's a couple of Christpher Ward watches (the second picture is the C9 GMT, last picture C60 Trident which looks a lot prettier in person)

Hi Guys;
Thanks for all your opinions, although, my parents don't really know I am going to buy them (they would kill me) and so can't buy them online.
The only shops I can buy them from really are H Samual, F Hinds and Earnest Jones.
Budget = £135 per watch. =l -
Re: Would you wear these watches (guys) - female opinons also valued?Watches are cool. It's not so much about telling the time, it's an accessory and the only acceptable jewellery for a man.(Original post by concubine)
First one is okay. Second is ugly.
Though I have no desire to wear any watch. Pointless jewellery really, given that I always have my phone.
