Are summer internships harder to get than grad jobs?
I've finished the 2nd year of a 5 year degree and I didn't get any internships for the summer. Should I be worried about getting them?

Will having experience in regular jobs like stuff at tesco etc be any advantage when looking for a graduate job after my final year?

If I finish university without an internship, will I have messed up?

I'm doing a five year degree and didn't get any internships at the end of my second year. Second year of a five year degree is still quite early, so there's little to worry about.

Overall I think it's easier to get internships than proper graduate jobs for two reasons. Firstly, less people are applying for them, so the numbers are lower. Secondly, it's less of an investment to the company: if you **** up or aren't very good then they're not paying you much money and it's only for a summer. I've also noticed that the application process is easier for summer internships than graduate jobs.

Regular jobs like Tesco helps because it shows you're employable, but ultimately it's not as good as an internship.

If you finish university without an internship you won't have messed up but you'll find it harder to get a graduate job.
