What did you get asked at interview?
I think it would be helpful to me and other prospective medical applicants to compile a list of interview questions - possibly the more unusual ones - that people have had.
If you have a particularly memorable question, please put it here
(not "why do you want to do medicine" lol)

How do you know the sun will come up tomorrow morning?

There's an interview megathread, which has loads of sample interview questions. Please refer to the resources available on TSR. -

I'm also not quite sure if you guys can openly discuss the interview questions that have been asked during the interview even from previous years - some medical schools ask you to sign a disclosure asking you not to share any of the interview questions or its content to others. I'm not quite sure how this works, but I'm just giving you guys a heads-up. This thread will be quite useful for future applicants as a source of interview preparation, not discussing about post-interview discussions.
Best of luck to all applicants!

Re: What did you get asked at interview?
Generally for interviews, medical schools want to know your
- knowledge of what the course entails
- knowledge of what being a doctor is like
- motivation in wanting to be a doctor
- experiences and qualities that you possess which would make you a good doctor
- Knowledge of the healthcare structure
- knowledge of significant medical happenings
- response when facing ethical scenarios
My interviews were filled with pretty normal questions, nothing too weird and unanswerable. I guess there might be some interviews that deliberately place you under stress by picking on your answer to see how you would react. In such scenarios you should (hopefully) keep calm and justify your stand more clearly. -
Re: What did you get asked at interview?
What Ergo said. I would get a template answer ready for "Why do you want to be a doctor" because it's almost guarunteed to get asked
You are much less likely to get wacko questions unless you are going for Oxford or Cambridge, if you aren't applying there don't panic about the sun and volume of the barrier reef! A question on rioters more likely - but it might be more like "If a rioter gets seriously injured (whilst rioting) and needs a transplant, but an elderly law abiding citizen also needs one, who should get the organ?", or something like that -
Re: What did you get asked at interview? That very much depends on the med school and the interview format. Typically a traditional interview will last 20-30 minutes.(Original post by Dubstep Prince)
How long do the interviews last?
The longest I had was the Warwick assessment centre which took 4.5 hours

"So, you are a scientist and have discovered the secret to immortality; do you make it available to the world?"
I actually had to sign a form saying i wouldn't divulge the questions at one of my interviews, as has been said several times though it varies greatly.
Most places ask Why Here and Why medicine as standard after that, who knows they might ask you anything to justify your favourite colour to what you think about oppression in Tibet or the nature of the NHS reformsLast edited by OSharp; 27-06-2012 at 16:48.
