Re: 100m sprinter running in 200mIt's a sprint just like the 100m but it's essentially impossible to do without slowing down towards the end due to a build up of lactic acid that occurs as a result of the slightly different energy systems utilised in each race.(Original post by Coffee_Please)
i'm a 100m sprinter but I've been told i have to run 200m for a competition and i've never really trained for it before :/
does anyone with experience of running both races have any tips and advice on the 200m?!
When running the 200m you set your blocks up at a tangent to the bend. I usually aim at the gap between the line for the end of the relay changeover zone and the inside lane line. This is so that when you come out the blocks you immediately gravitate towards the inside of your lane which is the shortest route around the bend. Try to hold this position as close to the inside line as possible without stepping on it.
When coming off the bend move towards the middle of your lane and focus on a point beyond the finish line. With about 60-70m to go you might begin to feel like your legs are quite tired. If this is the case then think about your technique and try to hold your form concentrating on a strong and rhythmical arm drive, a tall posture with relaxed shoulders and think about trying to lift up your knees.
Hope this helps in some way. Good luck!
