I thought they already had their own version. American Pie anyone? Except the characters in it actually get laid of course.

Just the cast picture alone makes me think this will be appalling.

But we get their humour. We haven't made our own British version of Friends, or the Simpsons, for example.

the Inbetweeners really is just a UK answer to American Pie and besides a few slight slang terms i think it would have translated well.
both are about the typical High School experience.
This is taken off the web but it just about sums up what I wanted to say.

"They just remake shows to make more money off of them. If they just show the UK version, they would be paying other people royalties for their show every time they show it instead of just making a deal to pay them off once and getting to keep the majority of the profits after they remake it. Also, it lets them tweak the shows to better suit certain demographics, and hire actors that Americans recognize and are more likely to be fans of. This lets them charge corporations more for commercial ad time."

In the end it's all about money.

if "Mike and Molly" is your idea of what an American comedy show is today then you must not be that familiar with our shows.
Meh, it looks very similiar to half a dozen other comedies that are out there. I don't think they are all the same but there is a certain mold used for some comedies and it's pretty tacky.

Laugh track comedies are still the most popular(2 and a Half Men) but it's a dying breed in US comedy while single cams are becoming the focus.
Good, laugh tracks are awful. "Two and a Half men" is a half decent comedy, they shoudln't have to rely on a laugh track.

Simon looks way to effortlessly cool and not awkward enough.
Will looks like he's been written to magically transform into an Alpha male upon some coming of age event.
Jay doesn't look like he thinks he's cool and is trying to be cool. He looks like one of those little troll dolls except with a Beatles haircut.
Neil actually looks alright though not vacant enough.

What I really don't get is why do they seem like they're having a great time?

This is not a new thing. And is regularly done by pretty much every country. The reason why they remake more than merely airing it in it's original is because they can afford to. British are more exposed to American culture than Americans are too British culture.

Not really sure how this is gonna work. I can't really see them using the word "clunge" or pulling off the "bus ****ers" or "football friend" bits if they end up putting those in.

I still love the old episodes with Charlie Sheen, but we all know it's going down the crapper without him. The way him and Alan (not sure of the actor's name, sorry) played off each other was hilarious.

Now we just have Ashton Kutcher pretending he has the IQ of a cucumber. Wow.

Edit: The actor's name is Jon Cryer, and I think he's brilliant. Without Sheen though, I rarely bother watching it, and just wait until they have a marathon of the old episodes.

Not sure if you were saying this to be funny or you genuinely didn't know, either way, for the benefit of others:-

Oh wow, i was completely unaware of this, i only recently got into to the IT crowd. Looks like they repeated every single detail of the UK version, what a waste of money.

Yeah, it's kind of insulting when the only thing they change are most of the actors because for some reason British people aren't attractive enough/talk too funny.

(also - there was a pilot for an American Peep Show apparently but it failed miserably)

Cor, why are people always so snobby about remakes? You've not even seen the first episode yet! At least give them a chance before judging :p:
The very concept of American remakes of anything makes me shudder with utter disgust. The American Media is a leech of world tv and film, steals the show and steals the fame from whoever made it. They did it to The Office, so now the US version is more known than the original, among many others.

    **** them.
