Protests Against Lizzie Windsor!
Man hurt in Black Mountain flag clash
One man has been taken to hospital after being injured in a disturbance on Black Mountain in west Belfast.
It happened at about 18:00 BST on Tuesday. A large Irish Tricolour had earlier been put up on the mountain and some loyalists tried to remove it.
Republicans said the man who was injured was "guarding" the flag which they said protested the Queen's visit.
A small crowd of loyalists had gathered at the Ballygomartin Road some distance away.
A police land rover was sent to the scene and the PSNI helicopter circled overhead.
The police have said they are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with community representatives.
The man's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
There have since been minor disturbances in the Broadway area of west Belfast.
A small number of petrol bombs have been thrown and a crowd of at least 100, mostly youths, threw stones and bottles at police land rovers near the Park Centre.

Re: Protests Against Lizzie Windsor!
From the organisers:
Following todays incursion into west belfast by royalist extremists some of our comrades have been hospitalised. We appeal to all right thinking republicans to help us reject this royalist celebration. While others are shaking hands with a forgein invader true republicans have been beaten with hatchets, knives and left hospitalised. What happened to the Ireland
of equals that we were promised? This is more evidence that just as in 69. This is a british colony for british people and Irish people will be subjected to the harsh reality that they are
not welcome in their own land. We appeal to everyone to help us continue with this successful protest. We need more fabric to reinstate our message. If anyone has White or Orange material or large tri-colours please join us on the mountain for the next 24hours..........
UPDATE:
the organisers have decided that we will be staying out overnight to defend our right to make a legitimate protest since to back-off now would be an affront to the men who were injured today creating that art-work and defending it.
any able-bodied man or woman who can spend a night on the mountain get along and join the movement for freedom of conscience and expression: we serve neither queen nor kaiser but ireland. -
Re: Protests Against Lizzie Windsor!I mean it is hardly a prominent message. It is just republicans being republicans and loyalists being loyalists.(Original post by IRSP044)

Re: Protests Against Lizzie Windsor!
There's legitimate protest and then there is being a moron.
This falls into the latter.
If you are a Republican, that's fine by me... but for the love of God, this visit by the Queen is symbolic peace making exercise. Stiring sectarianism is a moronic move in anyone's book.Last edited by Angry cucumber; 27-06-2012 at 00:50. -

The loyalist cowards then attacked and tried to kill four republicans with hatchets, knives and golf clubs as most people where away getting supplies! -
Re: Protests Against Lizzie Windsor!Notice that a lot of them have weapons.(Original post by Joinedup)
Y'all get very excited about symbols over there... Childish some might say
fwiw those loyalists are holding their flag upside down.
Also notice the idiot with a hoodie on and another hoodie over his shoulders.
Not long after this the other republicans turned up and chased them off. They dropped the flag and it was put back up. -
Re: Protests Against Lizzie Windsor!Have they? Because the Commander in Chief of the brit armed forces is hear, there are 5000 British troops stationed in the country, not to mention the many families still waiting for truth and justice on the murder of their family members by state forces.(Original post by Emmanuel321)
People just need to leave the past in the past and realise times have changed. -
Re: Protests Against Lizzie Windsor! These are the type of people who would just as easily attack people based on the football shirt they are wearing. Of course they are thugs and not in any way bright.(Original post by IRSP044)
Sectarian? They were making their protest clear in a peaceful way.

The protest was peaceful and clear, but you can't help but think the response was entirely predictable. Not condoning it at all, just saying that you can kind of base the response on basic logic. If you are questioning the police response, then I guess that could be a legitimate grievance.
In an entirely light-hearted aside, has anyone read about this town in Scotland?

This was a small scratch of the surface but as sure as day they sectarian crap came pouring out of the loyalists today. And where where the cops who had been using their chopper to try and blow the words off the MT? They would have seen the loyalists on their way but did nothing! -

Re: Protests Against Lizzie Windsor!Yes, peaceful protest should be respected, but that is an old issue in N. Ireland which recurs every year. Just look at the violence on both sides in the Orange March!(Original post by IRSP044)

Re: Protests Against Lizzie Windsor! Why shouldn't British troops be stationed in the UK? Stop pretending Northern Ireland is occupied and accept that it is democratically British.(Original post by IRSP044)
