A-Level Physics in one year
I'm planning on taking the whole A-Level within one year with support from teachers (board will be Edexcel). Is it difficult in particular? Any opinions from those who self-taught Physics and those who had a teacher will be great.
I have two options for the whole A-Level:
- Learn the AS within two months and join the A2 class starting from September
- Start in September with the AS (AS exams taken in January) and then start A2 from January onwards with A2 exams taken in June.
Another option is just to do the AS although I don't see much point in that.
Reason for wanting to do Physics: I'm applying for either Maths or Computer Science (maybe even joint) for 2013 entry and majority of applicants for Comp Sci usually have Physics at A-Level (I'm taking Maths and FM already if that matters - already have an A* in Maths)Last edited by isp; 29-06-2012 at 17:02. -
Re: A-Level Physics in one year
I just did this. I work in a school, so got assessed in practicals by teachers and they helped me on the odd problem but apart from that I self taught it all, with a little help from the wonders of TSR

I have a full (term time) job and work in the evenings, I've also been on holiday during this time, and am pretty much expecting a B. It's totally do-able, just make sure you're committed whenever you have free time
Good luck

Re: A-Level Physics in one year
Although maths is important, it's not a requirement to have taken A-level maths. I only got Bs Cs and Ds at A level maths years ago and managed Physics fine.
Honestly, if you have a good grip on maths/ manipulation of equations and the mindset to keep up with it and put the effort in you'll be fine. -
Re: A-Level Physics in one yearI already have an A* in A-Level Maths (I'm not quite sure why people are posting about self-teaching Maths above)(Original post by shorty.loves.angels)

Re: A-Level Physics in one yearMy point was that its entirely possible to self teach an A-Level, and they all have roughly the same level of work.(Original post by isp)

Re: A-Level Physics in one yearNo, it isn't.(Original post by Jenniferann232)
Hahaha that's a very silly idea.
Plenty of people make the decision to self-teach and are successful. Please don't laugh when someone is committed enough to self-teach something just because you find it 'hard enough to do in 2 years'. Advice or suggestions would have been appreciated. -
Re: A-Level Physics in one yearIn my opinion, I think it would be challenging and OP needs to realise. If they do, then go ahead, just as long as they realise it'll be hard but if they are hardworking and intelligent, which I'm sure they are then they will be able to do it(Original post by shorty.loves.angels)
No, it isn't.
