    UCLan or Wolves?
    Hi everyone

So I’ve applied to study photography and got offers back from UCLan and Wolverhampton, and now I’m trying to decide which one to go to. Thing is, I don’t know very much about either city/uni and I was wondering whether anyone would be able to help? With UCLan I’d have to take a foundation in art and design first so I’d be there for an extra year.

How’s the nightlife in Preston? Is there lots to do?
    What’s the SU like?
    What’s the accommodation like?
    Are the staff helpful?
Are you enjoying your time at the uni?
    Places to avoid?
How was your fresher’s week? Did you get lots of opportunities to try new things?

Please don’t bother replying if you haven’t actually spent a decent amount of time in Preston – I ‘d prefer opinions from people who actually have experience of the place! :P

Thank you, and please excuse the monster post lol.

Can't speak for Preston. But Wolves is "OK" - small SU, not much going on. Accomodation is near (check out Victoria Halls, Fiveways - private). Not much in fresher's week. On the up side Birmingham is 15 minutes by train (30 by tram). Whatever you want is there!

    Without a doubt UCLan!
uclan is the top modern uni in the north-west, much higher rankings than wolves, within half an hour from liverpool, manchester and blackpool, pretty good nightlife (6/7 decent clubs/cheapish drinks+ u can always go manc/liv etc), really good su (53 degrees is one of the biggest in the country), also uclan has the third highest population of students in the country (so it must be doing something right), accommodation is really good+very reasonably priced, also preston bus station is the biggest in western europe (thought i'd mention :P).

Well, I can't speak for Wolves but I personally love being at UCLan. Just finished my second year! In terms of nightlife I'd honestly say there's pretty much something for everyone- you have the typical chart places like Lava and Ignite, Squires (or New York New York for your cheesy classics), alternative clubs like Warehouse and even an 80s bar called Reflex. The SU's great too (though I work there so I'm slightly bias!) there's the SU bar called Source which has cheap drinks, karaoke on Tuesdays and a quiz night and a cafe called the Atrium which also has great, cheap deals on food.

In terms of accommodation there's plenty of choice, depending on if you want to go through the university or go private, and they're all at a decent standard. Most of the private halls, and some of the university owned halls, are en suite. You'll generally be sharing with a group of 3-5 other students (unless you go for a studio flat in one of the private halls). They're all right on campus as well!

During Freshers Week you'll be introduced to your subjects and your lecturers, there'll be a fair put on to represent all the sports clubs and societies that you can sign up for. There's also (of course) the typical clubs doing their thing hosting freshers nights- so get prepared for the super busy "Skoolies", UV, paint and foam parties.

And one of my friends did a foundation in art and design, despite being a foundation she did say she learnt loads and she really enjoyed it!

Sorry for the essay! But hope you have a great time whether you go

Thanks for all the feedback guys, you've all been really helpful :)

I have actually already chosen to go to UCLan (bit the bullet and replied a couple of days ago) but it was good to come on here and feel reassured about my decision, so cheers :D

And thanks manx1991 for your epic comment, it was much appreciated - really looking forward to it now! :)
