t are your best money saving beauty tips?
i'll start-
buy a face buffing brush from ebay for about £2- it means you don't need to buy exfoliators. just put a bit of your normal cleanser on the brush and scrub away!
olay beauty cream as a moisturiser- it's been around for yonks, it's not too heavy and it's dead cheap from wilkinsons. actually, saying that...
wilkinsons- always look there before going anywhere near boots.
DIY- for a perfect hand scrub, mix olive oil and sugar, scrub, then rinse with warm water.
what are your best tips?? -
poundland
they have some great brands sometimes. also 'savers' near mine is epic.
im brunette and sometimes do a coffee rinse on my hair to make it all shiny
vaseline & sudocrem - two wonderful creations and cheap. sudocrem is great on spots, sunburn and i also use a bit on my face before bed. vaseline is great on lips, eyelashes and all sorts.Last edited by jellybean_; 28-06-2012 at 19:18. -

If you're looking for luxury on the cheap, try TK Maxx. They often stock brands like Nails Inc, Essie, Elizabeth Arden, BellaPierre, Philosophy, Nip Fab, sometimes Benefit, loads of perfumes and plenty of other stuff too. I got my Make Believe facial tan for 7 quid instead of the usual 25 the other day =)

Similar to the face buffing brush, get a pair of exfoliating gloves (mine were 99p in Sainsbury's) and use with normal shower gel instead of exfoliating shower gel
Coconut oil (about £1.99 in Superdrug) as body moisturiser and as a night-long conditioner on the ends of hair, makes skin and hair super super soft! Lasts ages too; it comes solid in a tub, just scoop a spoonful out and rub it in your hands until it melts! -

Re: t are your best money saving beauty tips?
- Never buy body scrub. Use salt/sugar + olive oil. So much nicer than any you can buy
- If there are some high end products you can't live without, buy them in duty free, during "gift time" (many of the high end brands do gift time) or when department stores do store wide discounts e.g. sometimes 10% off. Sign up for the brand's email/mail list to hear about the offers.
- Don't buy any new product without checking reviews of it online first e.g. Makeupalley or (reliable) blogs.
- Do you own eyebrows. I recommend Tweezerman tweezers
- Do your own manicures & pedicures. They're very easy to do. The number of times I have paid for a mani/pedi and the number of times I have been disappointed because I could do a better job myself! However, in fairness there are SOME highly skilled manicurists out there, but I've only ever had one manicure which I felt was really good and worth paying for.
- You don't need to buy expensive shampoo, conditioner, cleanser, toner, lipstick, lipgloss...Spending more on these makes little difference. However, I admit to buying expensive lipstick/gloss because it looks nice and feels luxurious. In reality I don't think you can really tell much difference
- Cheap foundation is usually a waste of money
- Don't colour your hair. It damages hair and costs a lot to maintain
- If you have a simple hairstyle, it's really not necessary to have your hair trimmed every 6 weeks or whatever they recommend
- As nice as the Clarisonic is, it's not worth the money. Just use a washable buffing pad from the Body Shop
- Touche Eclat sucks. Don't buy things just because "beauty editors" claim they are "must have products"
- Never buy foundation without checking how it looks in natural light and if you can, get a sample and try using it for a couple of days to see how it wears throughout the day
- Garnier do some cheap, yet effective skincare products
- Eye cream is not necessary. Just use your normal moisturiser. I have used so many eye creams and they really do nothing more than moisturise.
- Clean fingers work best for applying liquid foundations. Maybe use a sponge for blending afterwards if necessary. Foundation brushes are not necessary and imo don't give the best finish.
- Don't buy cheap blusher brushes. They shed and make a mess.
- If you buy a face cream and it doesn't suit your face e.g. too oily, use it for your hands/feet instead
- Never buy single eyeshadows. Palettes are almost always better value (as long as you actually will use the colours in the palette!)
- Re Tk Maxx: I've also found OPI, Clarins, Lancome, Stila, YSL, Clinique, Leighton Denny, Mavala, Paul & Joe etcLast edited by No Future; 01-07-2012 at 12:52. -
Re: t are your best money saving beauty tips?
Body scrub - I take a little bowl/pot of sugar into the bath with me, and just grab the sugar from the bowl and massage on my skin and then rinse - it's so amazing, beats ANY scrub I have ever tried, and NOTHING makes my skin so soft
Coconut oil works great as moisturiser, hair conditioner etc. It has LOADS of uses beauty-wise and it is cheap!
Use sage tea to rinse your hair for shiny hair. Heard that beer and many other things have the same effect. Oh and egg is also great on your hair, and Mayo works well as a moisturising conditioner. -
Re: t are your best money saving beauty tips?
I'm sure mine have been mentioned above but I'll go anyway!
Vaseline for overnight use, to lengthen and thicken eyelashes and to hold the shape of your eyebrows - so cheap to buy
not really a money saving tip... but still worth mentioning for the future - MOISTURISE YOUR NECK AND CHEST! Haha. I thought everyone done this but when I mentioned it to my flatmates they didn't know! Don't want a smooth face and a wrinkly neck...!
people will probably know this too, but when putting lipstick on, apply it, DAB it off as much as possible (there should still be a bit of colour) then reapply again. then blot as usual. lasts so much longer than one application - technically saving money/product in the long run
Baby oil in your bath!! As long as you're not washing your hair.. Cheap to buy and saves extra moisturising
Don't buy moisturisers and stuff just because it's being advertised on TV or a magazine - you'll find the cheaper alternatives do the same thing (obviously not makeup)
The best for last-
Shave with (a really cheap) conditioner! It sounds crazy but it works
makes your skin SO soft - no real need to moisturise afterwards

Re: t are your best money saving beauty tips?
instead of going to boots or superdrug for essentials like cotton wool, make up wipes, hair removal cream, nail varnish remover etc go to places like wilkinsons and home bargains! way cheaper!
to get the most out of products cut them up, there's always loads left
add a few drops of saline solution into mascara when it's dried up to get more use
they have some great brands sometimes. also 'savers' near mine is epic.
