Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories! They sent you death threats?(Original post by popgoestheweasel)
I had to usual flatmates that would use my stuff and not clean up etc, they also would get totally drunk and one time ate everything, and I mean EVERYTHING that was mine in the cupboard, fridge and freezer.
But there are a couple of specific incidents that stand out as being 'nightmarish'.
- One of my flatmates had a violent relationship with his girlfriend and after months of having to comfort him after their fights in the early hours of the morning I opened my door one night at about 3am to see my flatmate lying in my doorway, sobbing, shirtless and covered in blood. He wouldn't speak for about 5 minutes and just sobbed, I honestly thought 'oh ****! he's killed someone'. Turns out, he and his girlfriend had a fight and she'd cut her wrists in front of him. They acted as if nothing had happened the next morning!
- My flatmates and their friends would destroy the flat on practically a daily basis, causing me to be charged repair costs along with them. One time they took it way to far and caused over £2000 worth of damage, (torn up carpets and tiles, the sink, oven were pulled out of the wall, fridge thrown down stairwell, smashed windows, lights and basically the place was messed up!) so when I discovered my destroyed flat at 1am I told management straight away as I didn't want to be charged! My flatmates were pissed I'd told on them (but did they honestly think they'd get away with it?1) proceeded to send me death threats and write insults on my door. The university said I could get them kicked off their courses for their behavior if I wanted, but I thought if I did that it would make and it worse. I stuck it out for the remainder of the semester and haven't seen them since.
I literally have so many more terrible stories I could write a book. My experience in first year certainly was a colourful one!
Never mind getting the university involved, you should have called the police.

Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories!
Threads like these make me nervous. I get along with pretty much everyone, but I don't know what I'll do if I end up with a real psycho.

Haha, amazing! Terrifying people with tales of the Black Nun were what made Llangrannog stays great.(Original post by Miracle Day)
In Llangrannog my room-mate wrote "The Black nun will rape (MY name) tonight" all over my bed :'(

Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories!
After two years of living with him, my housemate doesn't know what day the bins go out.
His record for not washing up a plate of food was 4 months.
He unpacked his suitcase in April. He'd been living in this house since July.
Living with other people next year. Woo. -
Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories!
You take your chances with moving into halls, as I found out this year...
One flatmate was what I can only describe as a 'militant atheist', and would buy English translations of every religious text he could find, then highlight what he thought were amusing parts, then would run into mine and oher people's rooms without knocking and recite them mockingly. He was also really childish and would lock himself in my room and start messing with all my stuff, including things that meant a lot to me that couldn't be replaced.
Another flatmate was very political, and couldn't have a conversation with someone that wasn't a Conservative supporter without starting an argument with them, even if they didn't want to talk about politics at all. He was also very abusive towards me because I'm Welsh, and kept saying that my grant from the Welsh Assembly was 'stolen from English taxpayers' and other gems like 'why should we pay you to shag sheep'...
Then there was the phantom milk thief and the people who thought it would be hilarious to chuck sanitary towels around the corridor, soak my mattress by putting it in the shower and play very loud games in the middle of the night.
Oh, and the month of mickey taking I got in December for wanting to go to a Carol service. Because apparently remembering the religious meaning of Christmas is 'lame'.
I was just disappointed by the childishness of my flatmates. I thought university would be a chance to meet like minded people who were interested in academia and other interests. But instead, in my flat at least, I found people who were using it as an excuse to extend childhood. -
Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories!
I'm moving into halls next week and I've met two out of four house mates. One seems generally friendly and a nice, considerate person, even though we have nothing in common, and the other is a boy from Hong Kong who has already taken the piss out of my degree choice. He thinks it's hilarious that it has no exams in the first year, even though the first year doesn't count. He even went as far as to call it a joke degree. So far I'm the only English person in my house, they all seem to be exchange students which isn't a big deal but I would like to be able to relate to at least one of them.
So I'm dreading moving in next week. I'm already thinking of changing before I've even got there! -
Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories!I would of gone mad! Could you not get changed? You didn't deserve that, they sound absolutely pathetic.(Original post by deuxchatsnoirs)

Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories!
My Mum shared a flat in her first year with a witch, who would regularly have her friends (also witches) over and spend the night chanting and pursuing other occult interests.
Safe to say that my Mum didn't request to share a flat with her for her second year at uni. -
Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories! They were probably wiccans or white witches. I live moderately close to a town where they first originated and white witches usually do chants in forests. It's not black magic, it's usually healing spells or chants to the universe to provide positivity and well being. It's no different from doing a group prayer, it's a religious practice. Nevertheless, if she was new to all that it must of been quite confusing. It could of been much worse though.(Original post by Laxstar)

as for my own flatmates, I had some milk and food theft but nothing major, although I had a loud neighbor playing bass music at like 5am a lot of the time.
we asked him to stop doing it, and he said he would and that didn't realise it was so loud (even though walls were shaking), then we reported it to the site staff (after having a quiet word had failed) who said they'd have a word, it still didn't stop, sadly it continued on all year despite a combination of us asking him to stop doing it + asking the site staff to make him stop.
but I suppose compared to some of these stories that's pretty tame -
Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories!
I had one girl living in my flat, she was extremely rude, and very arrogant.
It was our first week in halls and I didn't know how to work the microwave, I asked the flat communally how it worked because my dinner was still frozen she shouted at me: "OH MA DAYS, MAN UP WHATS YOUR PROBLEM JUST YOOOOSE IT" (She was from north London) I was like um, i'm trying!
And she always used to make rude comments at me, and tell me to 'man up' she was overall just an ahole and she always used to leave threatening notes if we used to not wash up on post it notes like "THIS BETTER BE ****ING WASHED UP WHEN I GET BACK"
She was just a dick, and she told me at the end of the year that she was so glad I wasnt living with her next year, when I was nothing but nice to her! She was crazy... serious anger management issues. -

Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories!
In first year we lived with two Malaysian guys, one of them was as nice a guy as you'd ever wish to meet. He was friendly and you could hold a conversation with him, even if it did feel a little forced but he never locked himself in his room like a lot of international students and when I see him around Uni we still stop and say hello...
However, the other guy... well, he locked himself in his room. We never saw him except on the rare occassion he would enter the kitchen (only when he thought no one else would be in there) and he'd be in and out within 5 seconds. Every now and then though he would invite tons of friends over and completely take over the kitchen for the whole evening meaning it was virtually impossible for anyone else to cook in there. I could forgive all that though but the weirdest thing is that he didn't seem to sleep and he would stay up all night screaming (full on screaming, you could hear from outside our flat!). We didn't have a clue what he was screaming about but it'd go on for 3/4 hours at a time. We presumed he was playing an online game but my God, the noise. We knocked on his door every night but he never answered. Saw him once in 2nd year, in the Union and he smiled and said Hello. Probably a nice guy but not the best person in the world to live with. -
Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories!I was a Glan-llyn girl myself, but even we knew about the Black nun(Original post by Dusty12)
Yeah...I'm getting more and more frightened about what kind of crazies I'll end up sharing a flat with now.
It exists! My friend's friend's cousin's grandad's brother saw it when he was in Year 6! I SWEAR!

Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories! That's what I thought, but sometimes uni wardens aren't as nice and cooperative as others it seems and some people learn to get on with it. I'm already not keen on my house mates before moving because they're all international and don't seem interested in one another at all, especially me. One of them has already mocked me on my degree choice as I mentioned earlier, so if I have trouble I'll be moving asap.(Original post by RobOAFC)
Moving to uni later this month so hopefully my flat-mates will be alright! Just wondering, why do most of you's seem to take all the rubbish some people give to you in your flats? -
Re: Nightmare Housemates - Your stories!Wow that guy obviously does not know how to make friends, he wont make many friends if he acts like that.(Original post by SugarPuddle)
