Part-time jobs vs living expanses
hello

I am an international student I just got an offer .I covered my tuition but I am worried about my living expanses . Many students it is about 200 excluding rent .will is that logical ?
another thing will I be able to find a part time job (I mean is it hard or jobs are available) and will it cover my expanses and rent ?

Re: Part-time jobs vs living expansesIf I'm not mistaken, Notts has a service that can help students find part time employment.(Original post by Aml711)

As an international student do take note that UKBA's recommended living expenses are £800 a month. Accommodation will most probably cost £400-500+ depends on which room type you choose though I'd go for a single study if money is an issue. So if you allocate £200 for food plus other expenses that'll total up to about £600-700 which is below the recommended living expenses.
You can work part time to fund your living expenses, but as an international student you will have to show that you have £7200 (£800 x 9 months) plus your tuition fees in your bank account BEFORE you apply for a visa.
Visa matters aside, it's a little risky to rely on just working to cover your expenses especially as a first year as you do not know how heavy your work load is and whether you have the time to work or not. -

Re: Part-time jobs vs living expansesIf you are worried about your living costs it is a good idea to get a part time job to help you get some money. It is quite easy to get jobs as a student doing supermarket work such as working on the tills and replenishing stock. The working hours could work well with your lectures and seminars and fit around your studying time too.(Original post by Aml711)

Your university might be able to help out with find a job considering you are an international student. They may be able to offer you a bursary of some kind too, but you will have to ask someone who specialises in this area at your university. -
Re: Part-time jobs vs living expanses
Nottingham has its own job vacancies system run by the Careers and Employability Service - you'll get access to this when you get your university username/password.
The University also has its own temping agency, Unitemps branch - http://www.unitemps.co.uk/ which posts around 3 jobs for around 5-6 positions a day I find.
You can also look for jobs in the normal places - read http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki/Job_Searching_Tips for where to look.
In terms of it covering living expenses, it really depends how much you'd like to budget for. If you're in private accommodation, you can rent student houses with others from £50/week. I'd suggest paying a little more for somewhere more comfortable and accredited for say £60/week.
On top of that you'll have heating, electricity, and water bills, which are probably £150/month in total. Then food, clothes, toiletries, stationery, any transport, socialising, clubs/societies, phone bill and of course, any costs associated with your course e.g. field trips, equipment etc, which you should be told about
The University does have some more information on state funding, benefits, bursaries, interest-free overdrafts, and the Access to Learning funds @ http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/students...ies/index.aspx

Re: Part-time jobs vs living expansesWhat exactly are you doing that gets your share of the utility bills to £150 a month?!(Original post by DarkWhite)
