is there much point in me doing the extended project?
All the universities that I plan on applying to do not want points as their criteria but range between A*AA to ABB and so extra ucas points are not a great incentive for me

I realise that extended project can take up a lot of time, some of which i could be spending on revising for my actual exams etc.

I am worried that if i spend too much time on my extended project then my grades may fall as a result.

Is there really much point in me doing it? I understand that it shows independence and people working on their own initiative; but I only get taught in school in a way in which I have to find out the information myself rather than being taught the content, therefore the skills i will learn are very similar to the ones i have been learning in the past year.

is it worth taking the time and effort to complete the EP if my universities are not really bothered about it anyway?

Also, i plan on applying to top 10 universities for law.

It's good to show you can do that kind of essay, a skill which university requires (or so I'm told, I'm not there yet!) You could try doing it at a time when you don't have exams or a lot of revision, it only took me two terms, and you could probably get it done in a lot less time than that. Just make sure, if you do it, you do all your referencing as you go along, I had a nightmare trying to sort it all at the end!

If you're aiming for the high band universities (AAA or better) and think the EP will hurt your grades then definitely don't do it. If you feel comfortable with your grades and you have (a lot) of extra time in the summer and the beginning of next year do it.

I'm not 100% sure about law but it doesn't seem to be one of the subjects that's really beneficial to do the project, you might want to just check that with your school though.

Don't assume the top universities don't care about it however, there is a possibility you can get a lower offer if you get a good grade in your project - depending on the universities.

I'm assuming you're about to go on a few open days, if there's time ask the admissions people if they prefer a candidate to do an EP or if it makes no difference in their decision, you don't even need to ask them at the open day you could just drop them an email!

If you do decide to do one, make sure it's something that interests you as that's the most important thing. Otherwise you'll end up either dropping out (huge waste of time) or struggling to find reasons to carry on and finish.

    Hope this helped!

edit: if we do one we do the majority of it in the summer, finishing by the start of next half-term.

No problem, people don't understand the importance or value of questions you can ask on open days! I've done a few with my brother when he went through the progress. Out of interest where are you going this weekend? I'll be up at nottingham

Surrey and yeah completely agree! I find that sometimes most of the information is on the internet but usually I have quite precise questions which I want to ask and so open days are perfect for them!

what course are you looking at?
