Yes, I take art a level and it's one of my favourite subjects. A lot of people tend to view it as perhaps a 'soft subject' but when combined with academic subjects alike English and sciences, it shows your flexible and have a range of skills. It's best to take something you enjoy regardless of other peoples veiws (:

Go for it! I'm taking fine art, english literature, history and biology and I've found that art really compliments my other subjects. Also it's really relaxing after a long day of essay writing! As long as you think you can handle the workload, as it does take up a lot of time, then I'd go for it

Maybe architecture?(Original post by jumpingjesusholycow)
It depends, what do you want a career in? -
What do you mean by that?(Original post by Spaz Man)
Sure but I would only recommended one "non-preferred" subject out of four. -
Re: Should I choose Art A-Level becuase I enjoy it?A lot of Universities want you to only do one course like Art, Photography, Drama and combine it with more 'traditional' subjects such as History, Maths, English etc. This does depend on the course you have chosen though.(Original post by YaYazooGirl)

Re: Should I choose Art A-Level becuase I enjoy it?In that case, I don't particularly see a problem with Art. If you were to say something like 'Computer Engineering' I may have been a bit like 'eeeeughm, maybe not', but Art and Architecture aren't too distantly related. I would however make sure you pick your other subject carefully, perhaps History.(Original post by YaYazooGirl)

Re: Should I choose Art A-Level becuase I enjoy it?Yes. By the way, if you are an Arab then presumably taking Arabic will require little prep - you might as well take that too...(Original post by YaYazooGirl)
I really love art, I enjoy it and I like to think that I'm good at it!
I am also good at English, Science, Arabic and I'm alright at Maths. Do you think I should choose Art solely on the fact that I enjoy it? Thanks in advance!

the other subjects that ur good at are very academic, so doing art could also be a nice way 4 u to relax
uni's will also like it as it shows ur a rounded candidate -
Re: Should I choose Art A-Level becuase I enjoy it?If you take it as an AS or carry it on as a 4th A2 it shouldn't be a problem wherever you apply as long as your other subjects all tie in together to give you a good traditional subject background. I took art AS because I enjoyed it at GCSE, I dropped it at the end of AS and no University seems to have held that against me. I think as long as you can find some way to say your subjects are relevant to whatever you wish to pursue then it won't be an issue e.g. I put something along the lines of it giving me skills in research and independent study which can pretty much apply to anything. It may limit you possibly depending on what other subjects you take, I didn't think I could handle 5 subjects but I wish I had taken Physics instead as not doing so automatically shut a lot of doors.(Original post by YaYazooGirl)

You may regret it if you don't do it you may regret it if you do but the other view is it is a hobby that you can always do in your own time. Generally in art I don't think you learn much, you get access to more equipment and mediums doing art but most of it is mainly self taught so if your not planning on pursuing an art course/something like architecture you may not find it worthwhile. It's also a lot of pretentious bull****ting which earns you the marks not necessarily being good at art which I found took the fun out of it. Ultimately it's your decision so you just have to weigh up your options. Best of luck

Re: Should I choose Art A-Level becuase I enjoy it?Oxbridge have a list of "preferred" subjects. I would recommend that most if not all of your subjects are from those lists to get the best chance of acceptance to top unis.(Original post by YaYazooGirl)

EDIT: Why neg me? It's a fact. If you don't like it, complain to the respective universities.Last edited by Spaz Man; 01-07-2012 at 23:17. -
